Yep. If Star Trek returns to television, it'll be Kirk/Spock and the Enterprise.

    It's a big 'if.'

Every new creative team that comes in may have their own ideas about how to do ST. There really isn't a "Prime Universe". The BermanVerse is gone. His lengthy tenure did allow for a long stretch of continuity in style and storytelling, but we may have a series of different variations on the basic idea of ST going forward.

I now look at each new ST installment the way I look at each new iteration of Superman, Sherlock Holmes, Spider Man or King Arthur. New people, new cast and fresh take on the core story.

The JJverse will last as long as JJ does. When he's gone, that universe will end just as it does when new teams are hired for yet another remake of Superman, Spider Man or King Arthur and Camelot.

I would agree with that if JJ & company ignored timelines altogether and just started over. But that didn't happen. Quite the contrary. They were careful to acknowledge the Prime Timeline by incorporating Prime Spock and making the new timeline as part of the plot for Trek '09. They did this to free themselves from the need to deal with any continuity issues from the timeline that we had for decades prior, but in doing so they acknowledged its existence in-universe.

Sure, they could have just done their own thing and ignored the previous timeline altogether, like Superman, Batman, James Bond, etc. But they didn't. I'm glad they didn't. They acknowledged it. So I'm sorry, but there IS a Prime Timeline, Prime Universe, BermanVerse or whatever you would like to call it. It still exists in-universe.

I liked Trek '09 and parts of STID, so I'm not knocking JJ's take on Trek as a whole. But I'm also not dismissing everything that came before. I don't know what timeline will be used or ignored in future Treks. And the truth is none of us knows.

EDIT: Added quote from AirCommodore since my post appears on a new page.

It's not a matter of "dismissing". New creative teams may want room to tell their versions of the core story. And it's the core story that remains. Indeed, many reboots of these other franchises ended up changing fewer things than JJ did. Despite "ignoring" previous incarnations, they sometimes ended up making something more faithful and consistent with earlier versions than JJverse trek is with with the RoddenberryVerse.

In any case, it doesn't really matter whether they "acknowledge" earlier incarnations of the story. People would be free to set stories in the BermanVerse whether JJ ignored it or not. The main thing is whether the core is still there.

That's what sounded like dismissing to me. At any rate, I don't disagree with anything in your last post. My point is NOBODY knows whether the Prime Timeline will be picked up in the future or not. Nobody knows if the nuTimeline will continue beyond the next film. Nobody knows if all of the timelines will be ignored in a future Trek. That's all I'm saying.

Then there's me like 'yay Chekov post-TNG era!'

I think that as good as any Renegades-esque efforts are any new TV project will spin out of the current movies. They've done loads to build the new universe, and setting it a few years in the future or something sounds good. John Cho still does TV so maybe the 'Captain Sulu' idea could get picked up at last?

'The Next Generation: Reboot' has also been mentioned but it is too obvious a route to follow I think. Maybe a 24th Century show could combine elements/characters from TNG, DS9 and VOY?

My first concern is that whatever universe it's set in, that there be a new show and that it be a quality show with characters that take themselves seriously and stories that have story lines and characters that we care about. Enterprise, for example, was not my favorite choice for what a new series would be about at that time but when it was done well (like the third season), it was fun to watch and worthwhile. The writers/editors need to themselves be Star TRek fans (and be talented).

The only way they can bring Trek back to TV without changing the prime or Abrams timelines is to continue where Enterprise left off. I'd rather they do Enterprise season 5 because there's a big refit to the NX-01, big enough that they can almost call it a new ship. Get Manny Coto back and he can work with Kurtzman & Orci on scripts and plots and it would be EPIC.

    Berman Trek = Prime Trek
    Prime Trek =/= Berman Trek
TOS and it's movies = Prime Trek too

No, there's also another option: Kirk and Spock on the Enterprise, completely ignoring all of the above.

A new Kirk and Spock series -- preferably animated -- for the fiftieth anniversary in 2016 would be nice...
What, then, is the definition of "prime" Trek? The original Star Trek was created by Gene Roddenberry. Star Trek Voyager is a derivative work of the original Star Trek developed by other people. JJ Abram's Trek is also a derivative work of the original Star Trek developed by other people. So what makes VOY "Prime" Trek and Abram's Trek not, other than your arbitrary decision to label is so?

Prime Trek is the continuous story from TOS to the future scenes of 2009's Star Trek. NuTrek nullifies that history. Prime Trek was coined from 2009's Trek's credits referring to Nemoy's character as Prime Spock (or Spock Prime). It's not only referencing Berman Trek, but everything Trek (on screen cannon) including Voyager, DS9, TNG, TOS, and all their movies.

I wish the new series was set post 2380's. There's dozens of characters from TNG/DS9/VOY that I still care about, and it would be nice to see them guest starring on the new series.

how about this...we go back...all the way back to now...Now now...and then go forward with an amalgam of -verses to explain the space program now and then going forward to warp drive research, success, the other major technologies' maturing to what we 'now' know as the -verse of Enterprise D-ish...then, to overcome the over-tech problems, and the crew being reduced to doing not much of anything, the Enterprise <insert letter here> discovers something like The Ringworld, thus requiring them to not only do their "Final Frontier, Roddenberry-verse" stuff, but to come across, expore and examine, and try to figure out the new tech and wonders on the Ringworld...

No, it doesn't nullify that history but creates an alternate version as said in the movie itself. As far as the original or prime universe, it's still there minus Romulus, Spock, and Nero.

    It's all perfectly true.

The biggest disappointment is that this alternate universe can't contribute to the future of Star Trek Universe. Kirk&Co would tell only stories from the past.

...but the "Uber-verse" that I am proposing would tell all of the stories and weave all of the disparate timelines, and would account for and allow for all the characters and happenings in Trek-dom, and at the same time, tell ALL of the Boldly Goings...
