Actually thought of another movie I love that's supposed to be total rubbish - John Carpenter's Ghosts of Mars. I just thought it was fun.

My guilty pleasure is the Matthew Broderick Godzilla movie.

Like many here I don't feel much guilt for these maybe better named "Cheesy Pleasure" movies.

    Enter the Dragon
    Kiss of the Dragon
    Roadhouse
    Big Trouble in Little China
    Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai
    Waterworld
    and so on.

I guess I do feel somewhat guilty about watching video game movies like Super Mario, Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter. Probably would hold back mentioning those in casual company. And I saw all three in the theater no less!

You know a movie that's actually pretty funny I just watched is The Dead Pool with Clint Eastwood. There's a part with Jim Carrey as a hair metal rock star that I think isn't supposed to be as funny as Jim plays it. You have a big chase scene with an RC Corvette. Clint slowly shoots every single person one time in the chest with his big cannon. He has a Chinese partner who knows Kung Fu because well, you know, he's Chinese.

Another good one in this vein is Death Wish III which looks like a live-action cartoon due to the way it was filmed and the silliness of the plot. You can feel guilty watching Counselor Troi get her clothes ripped off. I understand sexual assault isn't a trivial matter but the way this movie handles it you can't take it seriously. (Another one where Marina Sirtis loses her clothes is The Wicked Lady by Faye Dunaway's whip(!))

I did feel guilty about my feelings when Juliette Lewis popped her top. Hmmm, I sense a recurring theme here...

With that in mind I'll mention:
    Blame it on Rio
    Private Resort (with Johnny Depp!)
I've probably watched The Bounty with Mel Gibson more times than I should
    And a ton more...

Based on a novel by Richard Matheson, of course, as was The Legend of Hell House for that matter. (The novel was simply titled Hell House.)

I generally resist the notion of guilty pleasures, since I have no shame about loving old monster movies and spy flicks, but I suppose there are some movies I love that I would hesitate to claim are actually good

The Beast Must Die: This bizarre werewolf movie from the seventies which is basically "Ten Little Indians" crossed with "The Most Dangerous Game"--with werewolves. Loosely based on a story by James Blish, believe it or not.

The Tingler with Vincent Price. A very silly movie, but Price on LSD is worth the price of admission--even if your seat is not wired to shock you.

And, yes, I have a soft spot for Lifeforce as well . . . .

I've always had a soft spot for Super Mario Bros. and Masters of the Universe even though they're widely viewed as crap.

Heck yea! I liked Super Mario Bros.! :)

Me too! :) "Welcome to Earth..." --> Will Smith's character knocks out the alien.

I'm amused to see Mortal Kombat keep showing up. This is where I brag about having edited the novelization of that movie, as well as a junior version for kids.

    As I recall, they sold very well . . . .

His rant at the alien before the knockout punch was pretty good too.

Transformers (the first one) - fabulous visuals and great score by Steve Jablonsky. Also, that blond Aussie chick... Her accent is like beautiful music. :)

The Island - Scar Jo in a catsuit, top-tier production values, Sean Bean, Djimon Honsou... Yeah, hardly a good movie, but a feast for eyes and ears.

Independence Day - I think I was 12 when I first saw it on the big screen. Had the time of my life. Nearly two decades later I still have a soft spot for that one.

SW Prequels (all three of them, even "Clones") - yep, they suck... But I can still enjoy them for what they are (and then bitch about what they could have / should have been afterwards).

Well, it's after 2am here and I meant to go to bed at 1am, but doing one last round of the channels turned up Xanadu. It's cheesy, but for some reason I just really enjoy the musical bits.

A junior novelization of Mortal Kombat sounds bonkers.

How could I forget TERMINAL ISLAND from 1973, with Marta Kristen and Tom Selleck fighting against Roger Moseley and THE MENAGERIE's scarred Captain Pike as maniacal Bobby?

Sean Kenney is truly awful in this, so we're not saddened when he burns off screaming.:borg:

    Also YENTL.
