It's great to see Galileo in such beautiful condition.

I'm wondering, though, how much of the original is left in the restored ship and what's being done with the unused original parts? I'm sure a lot of fans would be happy to have a small piece of the original shuttlecraft.

When Star Trek TOS was being produced, the Galileo only had to look good on film -- which was typically being viewed on CRT television screens with 525-line resolution. Now she's being seen up close with every detail visible. I'm sure the old girl is looking better now than she ever did back in the Sixties.

Ah, the Ship of Theseus paradox. It's been mentioned here before. :)

As I understand it, pretty much the entire outer skin of plywood and masonite was too rotted to be salvageable and had to be replaced. The inner steel frame, nacelles, wings, pylons and landing gear are all original.

So, since steel is heavier than wood, if you measure by weight, the ship is probably still more than 50% original material.

Beautiful, museum quality work--it deserves its place right next to the Enterprise miniature at the Smithsonian.

^And it probably helps that it's not sitting on a really fake-looking planet set.... :p

Well I really enjoyed seeing Galileo Seven last night because of this thread. I am surprised someone didn't get hurt on the set with those large spears being thrown around.

    Rubber spears aren't that dangerous.

It looks fantastic. I'm really sad I didn't get a chance to see the unveiling a few Saturdays ago in NJ. It would be too much to try to get to Texas!

It's fabulous to see her looking so great and so loved! :techman:

The Galileo Seven was one of my favorite episodes when I was a kid, and still is even now.

Any thoughts of taking it on a tour around the US?

Search4: What's happened to the original parts removed in the restoration? I hoped they're not in a landfill somewhere.

What a magnificent restoration, it almost seems like you could step inside, fire up the engines and take off..and good old TOS Enterprise would be up above, waiting in orbit for you to arrive. If only..
