Fair Haven seemed like a cool place, but would it be a place you really would want to go? I would have picked something else. Maybe a beach paradise of some sort. What holodeck program would you have created for the crew to pass the time?

They also had a beach resort which looked like fun. For myself I would add a ski resort.

Maybe I'm just too tied into technology, so the 18th century Irish town had little appeal for, but I have no idea why the Fair Haven program was so popular, or at least that we were supposed to believe it was so popular. If they wanted a place to relax, I wish they had kept using Sandrine's.

I would have created a town full of tired American stereotypes and used them for comedic purposes.

    Bitter? Me? Noooooo. :)

I hated Fair Haven. And I'm an American. I did not find it entertaining or engaging in any way, and if I were a Voyager crew member I would have done something else.

Every episode with Fair Haven I tended to turn off.

Can't say that I'd be into Fair Haven. Sandrines or the Resort, yes.

Both of the episodes were yawn fests for me. The high point of those episodes being the moment I heard on Trek someone in an Irish Voice saying "Can't one day go bywithout you making an ass of yourself?"

I like DS9's idea that Sisko would take people to see a classic baseball game (or other sport), make it an outing for the crew, get some friendly rivalries going on who supports which team... Until it turns nasty and the Mess Hall gets trashed and the airponics bay is looted by irate Curling fans.

Holodeck creations to be avoided: Fair Haven, Da Vinci's study, and anything that even approaches being a recreation of the NX-01's final mission. That's a holodeck no-no.

I liked Da Vinci's study but then I'm a Da Vinci fan.

I liked DaVinci, the resort, and even Sandrine's. But Fair Haven was just too much, in every way.

I apologise for putting Da Vinci in the list of no-nos. It was a knee-jerk reaction to Concerning Flight. Friends? :D

    a) Totally agree that Fair Haven was a crap idea
    b) It was the 19th century. 1800s=19th century. We are in the 21st century now. The last century was the 20th century. The period from 0-100AD was the first century. ;)

'Conerning Flight' wasn't as bad as 'Spirit Folk.' :p

Digging into the historical database, I would have like to have seen classic concerts. The Beatles at Madison Square Gardens, The Allman Bros Band at Fillmore East, Woodstock, Jimi in Berkley...ect. Question is how long would it take to create a complex program like those listed in my and the other posts...

An interesting idea. I bet Paramount had the rights to footage of various such historic instances that the crew could have been 'Forrest Gump'd into. From what Kim and B'Elanna discuss regarding holographic Cary Grant and other golden-era Hollywood films in 'Year of Hell,' I imagine a lot of these events have been recreated as fully interactive 3D experiences rather than basic 'concert videos' already, the question would have just been did Voyager launch with those files? I say, why not? ;)

I liked the setting of Fair Haven. The execution was... questionable. ;)

Loved Da Vinci's study though, as well as Sandrine's. I could see myself going to Sandrine's for a drink.

For a night out, most definitely. For a long-term vacation, I would have chosen another holodeck destination. Something tropical.

I liked Michael Sullivan, so I might have had him "go on my trip" elsewhere too. :D

KimC there is a sking program mentioned at the end of "Macrocosm"

I've often wondered why they didn't have an amusement park program.
