I would still pay $39 for the Blu-ray.

There's already a thread about the DVD release, and I don't think we really need a whole separate thread to talk about the price tag, do we?

    Merging...

What is so wrong with double dipping? You really want dusty old copies of ST XI sitting in shops forever, or why can't Paramount Home Video have the right to freshen up their product every few years, add new stuff, take advantage of new tech innovations, change the packaging and do the promotion all over again, picking up new audience and giving longtime fans a new treat?

Yeah, ST XI should only come out on Betamax and Super 8.

Not high at all, all 3 are standard MSRP price points. Expect them to hit stores at around...

    19.99/23.99/24.99 for each.

Yep, I looked up the normal MSRPs after I posted that.

Expect some people to say that the real prices, when they are released, are a reflection of Paramount quivering to fan demands that the prices be lowered because they knew that the film wouldn't be successful with just them buying it.

For the record, Amazon is already showing a more reasonable and expected list price of $27.99 for the 3 Disc collection.

I'll buy it the week it comes out. I wonder if Best Buy/Futureshop will be cheaper than Costco? Oh and I think I need to buy a Blu-Ray player now!

My two kids chipped in last xmas and gave us a Blu-ray player. With Blu-ray movies the picture is incredible. But, i am finding my old TOS, TNG, Voy and DS9 dvds look funny. The picture is somewhat stretched. We think it could be a setting we have to adjust. Onlyl the husband and i are pretty much idiots when it comes to this sort of thing, so we've been suffering through with the stretched pictures.

It is a setting, either in your player or in your TV. In the setup menu of your player, make sure you select "Normal" rather than "Full" (the most common names for the settings). That should solve your problem. If not, send me a pm with the TV and player model numbers and makes and I'll see what I can find out for you (A/V is something of a hobby of mine--I belong to one Trek board, but 8 A/V boards).

We just mounted our DLP projector (and our 8 foot screen) for the coming NFL season (go chargers). And we watched THE MOTION PICTURE on our Bluray and it was like going to the movies..I will pay for the Bluray version of XI because, for me, it makes that much of a difference...

Oh, yeah; you should see that Pine/Quinto interview. They describe the only time that J.J. got a little bit miffed. It was when all the crew were gathered, right as Spock returns and offers to go to the Narada. He was saying the "...my mother was human..." line.

J.J. gave them a time out during that scene. It was like 2 a.m., and they were all punchy, laughing. They couldn't stop laughing, and J.J. said: ok, I'm going away for a couple of minutes, and when I get back... Apparently, that worked, because the scene looks seamless.
