So, Sam Raimi's much anticipated return to horror arrives in theaters tomorrow in the form of DRAG ME TO HELL, starring Alison Lohman and Justin Long. I was able to catch an advance screening of the film here in Chicago last week so below is a mini-review, sans spoilers. The film is a riot. For those thinking the Spider-Man films softened Raimi to any degree you're mistaken. This has all of the gruesome, fantastically horrifying yet concurrently hilarious horror of his Evil Dead films. Unlike the "torture porn" phase that has taken over contemporary horror as of late, DRAG ME TO HELL is a rollicking good time, full of Raimi's now trademark gross out humor. Basically, I recommend this film to anyone who is either a fan of horror, Raimi and his Evil Dead films or anyone just wanting to have a good time at the cinema.
