Just found this, from 1995 and based on the segment from John Mike Ford's How Much For Just the Planet:

...I thought the point of the hammer demonstration was that the crystal did shatter from the "middle" blow, and that the shrapnel from the success was what nearly did in the cameraman who had chosen to wear red that day?

Way less awkward than many of the educational videos I have translated for the local market. Wonder if I can slip this one in among the next batch?

    Very good.

    Great find, KingDaniel.

Now if only someone had filmed the whole book. If there is a god, this will be so...

Hey all. Sorry for digging this old thread up (I'm sure there are those out there who will jump at the chance to grouse about me resurrecting such an old post), but I can't believe I missed this. I'm the one who made this short back in '95, when I had access to a small studio and video editing equipment. Sure brings back memories. I posted this on YouTube a couple years back when I heard of the sad news of John M. Ford's passing, who wrote the original version of the "Dilithium and You" text in his novel How Much For Just The Planet? I wanted to honor his memory in a way that I thought he might have appreciated. He was such a talented author, seamlessly mixing comedic moments with drama and character building. I only wish he had written more in the Trek world than just that and The Final Reflection. Much of his work was used by FASA for their Star Trek role playing game, and I see some of his Klingon concepts and how they behave in the new fan film "Prelude to Axanar", as portrayed by Richard Hatch as "Kharn" (talked about in another thread). Anyways, this was a labor of love, and I've gotten lots of good feedback over the years, despite its crudeness by today's production standards. Glad to know it's not been forgotten. :)

You did a great job. Thank you!:)

(when I saw Prelude to Axanar, it's in-universe documentary setting immediately brought to mind this infomercial)

^^^ Quite welcome, and thank you for the kind words!

Yes, I too noticed that similarity in Axanar, particularly the introduction scene with the Starfleet logo and some of the 3d space-map animations. Who knows? Maybe they got a tad-bit of inspiration from my little pseudo-documentary. It may even start a new trend away from standard space opera screenplays.
