I don't think Bowler's a bad actor, Nolan is a blunt object and in the finale he was a hero and helped saved the planet. I don't know how much O'Bannon has over the show anymore but the final two parter felt like something he'd want on the show.

He has zero chemistry with everyone on the show. It has nothing to do with how blunt and unrefined his character is, and everything to do with him just not being right for the part. He was clearly intended to be more like John Crichton from Farscape, who was the same general type of character, but he comes across more as a dimwitted dullard than the rugged outlaw turned sheriff he's clearly supposed to be.

He has a great chemistry with Leonidas to me and he got close to Tommy towards the end. And really I can't compare him to Crichton since Crishton used humor as a defense but Nolan is a veteran and really doesn't want to close to people.

    John was insane.

    Literally.

The aurora chair helped, but he had parted ways with sanity in the pilot.

Maybe an allergic reaction to translator microbes?

I was referring more to Crichton being an out-of-place outlaw with a heart of gold aspect, which is what they're trying to do with Nolan. Crichton was actually likeable, had fantastic chemistry with his crew, and could actually pull off being a leader of men. Nolan? He has none of those traits.

Heck, even the "chemistry" he has with Irisa is due largely to Leonidas' charisma, not his.

Nolan as a fish out of water would have been New York before episode S02E12.

    This is his element.

The universe has to, and will bend to his will.

Different situations, whatever chemistry Crichton had didn't come automatically and really Nolan doesn't to be friends with most of the people in Defiancem certainly not people like Datak. Nolan only reeally trusts Irisa and finally Tommy. Nolan has more in common with Max Rockatansky than John Critchon.

Pottinger was a real psycho for kidnapping the Tarrs, exposing their secret to Amanda, and giving a gun to Amanda expecting her to pull the trigger, not that Stahma didn't deserve it. That says a lot about Pottinger's character as a real scumbag.

The finale was intense. But I couldn't tell if that was Hong Kong or NYC at first because of the building structures. Apparently, New York remained mostly undamaged during the Pale Wars.

Actually, that's pretty much what "chemistry" means in that sense.

And, again, I'm not saying his character is identical to Crichton, or even close to it. Just that they're the same general type of character; the out-of-place outlaw trying to do good, as well as the lead of the show. And Browder succeeded at that with flying colors, whereas Bowler doesn't even come close.

Hell, I couldn't remember how to spell his name so I looked up the cast on Google. Even they don't think he's worthy of listing first. XD (As opposed to most other shows.)

And two seasons of Defiance is alittle long than one season of Farscape. I don't see them as the same general type of character in that regard at all, Nolan is the law not an outlaw if Mad Max was a marshall. Nolan is a vet. Crichton is a mere pilot not a warrior. I don't see them all that similar at all.

What the hell does length of seasons have to do with anything?

What are you even talking about?

And yes, Nolan was very much an outlaw. A scavenger and thief who was turned into a lawkeeper largely against his will.

But whatever, clearly you have your own view of things and it's not anywhere near mine, so discussing anything with you on the subject is completely pointless.

1 season = 1 year, but not always.

Crichton had 44 episodes to develop in 2 years, while Nolan has only had 26.

Compare the 2 Sherlock Holmes (on television) at the moment.

In the first 2 years the English version of the of the character had 6 episodes to sell us on who he is, yet the American rendition of character was awarded 48 episodes to prove that he is fantastic.

    It's a question of saturation.

And any of that has to do with chemistry between characters... how exactly?

Chemistry between actors and their characters has absolutely nothing to do with a built-up relationship. In fact, they're pretty much exactly the opposite of one another. Chemistry is obvious from day one.

Browder oozes with charisma and worked well with his entire cast. Bowler, not even remotely. If he were plucked from the show today, it wouldn't matter one iota.

Has a single Defiance actor ever complained about working wih Grant Bowler. Browder might've had a great relationship with the cast but Chricton had a rocky one at best. Interestingly enough Bowler was on Farscape, he was the shaman in That Old Black Magic.

In most of the interview and stuff I've seen with the Canucks they didn't sound any different than when they were in character.

I've never really had any issues with Bowler. I like Nolan a lot.

i wouldn't say Nolan is like Chrichton as much as he ought to be like Peter Quill (Starlord of Guardians of the Galaxy).

Too much of a jerk to be a believable leader..as opposed to say Han Solo

So any word on whether the show has been renewed or not?
