Someone else reading Green Hornet...that's good! Just the following for me today (this thread seems to be slowing down a bit now that the luster and excitement of the relaunch has settled down a bit I guess):

-Aquaman #7 (The Who Sunk Atlantis story beings)
-Superman #7 (Perez is gone, first Griffin/Jurgens issue and I still I would jump back to give this run a chance)
-Legion Secret Origin #6 (Final issue. This has been disappointing overall. Levitz needs to step down. Not at all what I was expecting).

Aquaman: Not too bad, an issue that seems to be more about setting up the current arc. Artwork in this book is still beautiful.

Superman: A very good issue in my opinion. Good artwork and good use of Superman in the book as well as setting up the villain for the current arc. I still don't think I'm completely sold on this look for Superman but there was some good things in this book.

The Dark Knight: A big battle with Bane and the book's current "White Rabbit" arc it's been running since the beginning comes to an end. This book I'm actually coming around too and not finding to be all that bad, it also makes nice use of Superman and Flash helping Batman.

The Flash: The artwork in this book is gorgeous as are the page layouts. The story is going along good with Flash having to deal with some of the consequences of the problems his powers can cause.

All-and-all, a good week of pulls from DC!

The new Superman comic reads alright much better than Perez hopefully they do something more with the current crossover direction with the daemonites. And I can't say how glad that Jurgens is only coplotting with Giffen writing.

Probably because Carlin had a reputation at DC as being even more of an asshole than Byrne.

Aquaman #7: This is the better of Geoff Johns books he is writing right now. This Who Sunk Atlantis mystery is going to be more interesting than I thought it might be.

Superman #7: Sigh. So Lois doesn't know who Clark is yet, The Death of Superman is still supposed to have happened? Unless I'm missing something but the impression I get is that not only were they never together but she doesn't know who he is either yet. This is what I mean about wanting some things but leaving out in some ways crucial elements out of the timeline. Lois emotional state during the Death and Return of Superman story line is one of the things that has always had imapct for me, if that is no longer there...then what is the point of having the event still intact? The writing is improved but not interested in the story at all. This one is perma-dropped.

The Death of Superman is still intact? I thought Superman got a full, cold, reboot or was that only in AC?

DiDio has stated since the announcement of the relaunch that several events still happened, Death of Superman is still one of them, and I believe in issue one of "Superman" it was referenced. Superman's had a partial reboot...not everything was gutted. Just most things.

    This was from last October...

    http://insidepulse.com/2011/10/02/d...-earths-comments-it-happened-but-differently/

Final Crisis never happened apparently that means Bruce Wayne and company have a "lost year" of sorts in the New 52. This should also mean that The Return of Bruce Wayne and most of the first year of Batman and Robin didn't happen either since they were the direct result of the events of Final Crisis. Although since RIP happened I guess that cancels the other out. See what I mean!?? The article has a good term for this "logic bomb" when trying to contemplate the new timeline. There is no possible way it can be reconciled lol.

I doubt everything seen in the Death of Superman arc happen the same way in the New 52 timeline. At best Superman was thought to be dead, possibly killed by Doomsday. Other than that the details are up in the air. Same for the arcs that still "happened".

Indeed as DiDio stated in the facebook reply the article stated, that still doesn't mean the new timeline isn't utterly ridiculous and makes no sense. I also understand that when we've had these conversations some of you don't care about the timeline...thus the part where I sound like EJA (LOL) but there still needs to be some logic behind the back story of the New 52 IMO and there isn't any. Just too many contradictions and inconsistencies.

You have yet to point out one supposed contradiction or inconsistency. All what Didio has said pretty much just means that the events such as the Death of Superman just happened differently than those in the old DCU.

All right perhaps there aren't any contradictions or inconsistencies, those were poor choice of words on my part, but the "logic bomb" aspect of the compressed timeline is still silly in my opinion. People have brought up and discussed examples all through the thread such as the Five Robins and multiple Batgirls, some continuity carrying through, some not, and not just for the DCU either, the Wildstorm stuff as well. Like the stuff I pointed out about "The Authority" way earlier in the thread. Again I get things are "different" and didn't happen exactly as they did in the previous timelines. Man I really do sound like EJA now don't I? I guess I'm not conveying my point properly or something.

I think fans just need to start looking forward. We tend to spend too much time playing "how does this fit?".

True enough. I know I continually repeat myself on this matter but it is one of the things that keep bugging me about the New 52, and mainly because I keep encountering stuff in the stories that just throw me off. I've honestly never been much of a continuity guy before...or thought much about it...but it is really glaring to me in the 52'Verse so far.

This. I think ultimately, until someone says "Hey, remember when that creature killed you a few years ago, Superman?" that maybe it's best to think that story HASN'T happened.

It's a whole new universe, some stuff has carried over, some hasn't. What has... when they bring it up, then we'll know.

LOL. This is kind of surprising since they made a big deal about her being Spoiler a few months ago. Not surprising that they changed their minds about it. This flip flopping about characters really kind of irks me.

Whatever. I don't even care enough to complain. DC's handling of this reboot has been downright dreadful in so many ways.

    agreed.

and as for continuity...i'll be that one guy in the background saying, 'but this doesn't make sense with this story.' yeah, i'm that guy.

I've made no secret over the years that Stephanie Brown is in the top-5 DC characters I want to write. (Number one on that list is Jason Todd, but I'm happy with what Scott Lobdell is doing with the character.) And a few years ago, after Chuck Dixon brought Steph back in Robin and before Bryan Q. Miller's Batgirl series, I wrote down what I would do with Steph as an ongoing character.

I took a look at it recently.

It would need some tweaks to fit the New 52. I feel like I should revisit it, write up a full proposal, and find a way to get it to Dan Didio... :)
