    If that's the NF Captain's Table one then I think you're right. It's either that or the NF Double Helix one, cos they're the only two I haven't read.

    Nope again. Here's a hint: the "Mac" in the quote is not Mackenzie Calhoun.

    ^Bingo. "Mac" being Mark McHenry, who for some odd reason stopped going by the name by the time of New Frontier. ;)

    The reason why I remembered it is because I had seen Rapture a few days before finding the book in my local library, and liking some of what I thought of as similarities, about...a year or so ago. The names Berat and Marak clicked, and voilĂ

    Other than an absolute certainty that I've read the book that the quote is from, I got nuthin.

    ETA: The Death of Princes? Nah, too obvious. ;)

    No, it's not from The Death of Princes.

    It's from a relatively recent book, and one that has caused me much pain in reading.
