When we had a 20Mbps connection (which was usually between 14 and 18Mbps), we had no issue running two at a time with both getting a 1080p stream. This is through Time Warner Cable.

Now we have a 50Mbps connection.

Two years ago, yes ... that is correct. I was watching it on iTunes, at the time, thanks to this article. And I forget the blonde girl's name, right at the moment, it's "Susan" I believe, she's definitely my favourite on that show.

I shouldn't be flip, I'm glad you saw Coupling and that BBC America brought it to you however circuitously. I wish BBC America still showed all that great programming that it once did. There was once a wealth of variety on the channel when it debuted.

Why doesn't all other services/channels get TNG in HD? Doesn't CBS want to finally do away with those ugly SD masters for good?

They likely charge a premium for the HD masters currently. So broadcasters/streamers can pay to carry either SD or HD versions depending on what they're willing to pay. Amazon Prime probably has exclusive streaming rights for the foreseeable future.

It can't be 100% exclusive because Hulu Plus also has some seasons in HD. Amazon has the most however.

I think it has to do with contracts and when current contracts with CBS are up and/or when the streaming provider decides it's worth it to renegotiate for the new HD versions.

Wow, I was watching TNG on BBC America this week and didn't even notice that they were HD episodes. In fact, I specifically remember wondering if they were gonna air the new HD episodes, lol!

Only "Encounter...", "The Naked Now" and "Code of Honor" were in HD.

You need a connection of at least 15mbps for Netflix HD to work properly.

It's like the channel was only given the first disc of the blu-ray set. Heck, they seemed to be airing it picture boxed in the SD channel as well, as if they don't have a copy of the episodes without the pillar boxes unlike Hulu.

Seems like they're going to run the "new" episodes four-at-a-time on Tuesday nights. It would be silly to dump them all out at once.

I watched the end of "Code of Honor" and didn't even notice any difference!

If you have an HDTV and receive BBC America in HD and didn't notice a difference, it may be time to visit an optometrist appointment. Before you mistake an onion for an apple.

Just curious. Are they showing the proper aspect ratio, or are they blowing up the picture to make a faux-widescreen like they do with SD episodes?

They're showing them in proper aspect ratio, refreshingly.

I finally got a chance to catch a couple episodes last night. I haven't bought any of the Blu-rays, so this was my first exposure to the remaster (aside from clips online). Beautiful! CBS Digital did a tremendous job remastering the show. During the credits I found myself looking to the corner for that ubiquitous blue glow, only to be pleasantly surprised to find it gone. :D

haha I did as well when the first season set came out.

I think it might have been a visual artifact of the titling overlay system they used way back.
