BABYLON GALACTICA: DEEP SPACE ABOVE AND BEYOND

Welcome aboard Babylon Galactica.

Ten years after the Federation-Goa'uld War the ninth Babylon station, Galactica, has been constructed, in orbit of the planet Epsilon-Bajor. It's first commanding officer is Commander Benjamin Sisko.

Sisko represents the Federation on the Babylon Galactica Advisory Council, with representatives from the major races including:

  • Ambassador Teal'c Dax of the Goa'uld Empire
  • Ambassador Kosh of the Vorlons, an ancient and mysterious race that have mostly ascended to a higher place of existence, but some still exist on in the encounter suits
  • Ambassador Ophidian of the Cylons, a civilisation of mechanoids created by the Gorn to be their military forces, but turned on their masters and eradicated the entire species.
  • Ambassador Six of the Silicates, a race of Humanoid Cylons originally created to be used as infiltration units, who rebelled against their makers. They also known colloquially as Replicators or derogatively as Skinjobs.
Sisko is assisted by his best friend and head of security, R2-D2, an astromech droid found floating in space in Sector 14, with no memory of where he came from. The station is defended by the 58th “Zeta” Squadron, an elite group of spacefighter pilots, including Kara Thrace, Apollo, Shane Vansen, Tom Paris, Alex Rogan and led by Jeffrey Sinclair. The Battlestar Enterprise, under the command of Jean-Locutus Picard, patrols the local area as Galactica's main support vessel.

Storylines include:
  • Commander Sisko discovering that his girlfriend Catherine Sakai, who reportedly died on an archaeological dig in system J-25, may be still alive and is now an emissary of the Daleks.
  • The Vorlons go to war with the Bugs of Z'ha'dum.
  • The assassination of Federation President James T. Kirk and the conspiracy surrounding it, even whilst Federation Council Members Londo Mollari and Tomalak try to use the power vacuum to their own ends.
  • The discovery of a ring-shaped portal in Sector 14 that connects to other points in space, which they name Jump Gate. This may lead to the long lost home of R2-D2 and the introduction of an aggressive organisation of alien races from another galaxy, known as the Empire...
The human adventure is no longer all alone in the night...

Ha ha. Just watched episodes one and two of the Expanse and was getting vibes of Space Above and Beyond and then I spot this!

I did a Star Trek / Babylon 5 / Alien / Farscape mash up. Intending to finish up with some Buck Rogers and Doctor Who ;P I hadn't thought about bunging in some cylons too... Great fun.

There was an old old computer game called VGA Planets; an early almost 4X style game where the different races were pretty clearly cheap knock-off versions of every major sci-fi franchise. This definitely makes me think of that.

I really wanted to see something like this back in the 90s, but I'm pretty sure it was watching this ↓ that made me have a go at actually making it.
