Was there some rush before Bushfire season to stop the compo?
Many of the people who will not get the payment wouldn't have voted for Abbott so I don't see how it is their fault.
The new rules were dated the 18th October which was the day when the fires were at their worst.
Has anyone met anyone who actually DID vote for him?
I can't think of anyone I know who I am certain would have voted for the Liberals.
In my own electorate (Franklin) - the count after preferences was 55.9% to Labor and 44.1% to the Liberals, so a pretty solid Labor victory.
n the second seat that takes in part parts of Hobart (Denison) - the count after preferences was 65.5% to the Independent Andrew Wilkie and 34.5% to Labor. The Liberals only managed 23.2% of the primary vote.
I don't know about voting for Abbott, but I know a number of people who voted for the liberals.
They seem to have a two things in common - complete lack of understanding about the global situation and absolute fear of the boat people. They all, bar one, bought into the liberal scare tactics.
The one that didn't just hates everyone. I'm sure she'll vote labor next time because she hates the libs.
I know one, maybe 3 people who voted Liberal. The rest, no.
Speaking of Labor, there's a series of interviews with Keating, the first ep is on tonight.
Jesus, what a self centred, arrogant, egotistical wanker. It only reinforces why I NEVER liked him. And I'm an old Labor voter!
^ Should be warned for flaming. There's no need to be abusive.
Are you saying Keating is on this BBS?
And he is Mr. Abuse himself, that's his thing..
Some classics there.
Like everything else he did, he abused with class.
Keating is the only politician who's portrait hangs on my wall.
I have a paperback book of his insults. It is shaped like a banana
Nope, Keating's a dick. If you admire him, fine, I kinda get it. But I beleive the whole 'lower the tone of Parliament' thing started with him, and his interviews (you should watch them) clearly portray just how completely self-centred and arrogant he is.
Keating is over-rated. Hawke was a better PM.
Yep. I also see the point in deregulating the banks, but it was done in such a way that it made rich people richer and the poor, well...
Nope, he gets no kudos from me. I'm sure he won't lose sleep over that, but then, neither will I.
I'm still laughing so many years later about the 60 Minutes piece I saw on Keating and his young family when he first moved into the Lodge. They were playing up that he had young children and the whole family was having a BBQ on the Lodge grounds. There were the snags on the BBQ and Keating, apron donned, tongs in hand turning them over. A bottle of Rosella tomato sauce prominently displayed. The nice reporter lady asks one of Keating's children, a girl of about 10, "so your dad cooks up a good barbie does he?" and she replies, "Oh we've never done this before."
