This Sin appears to be a hint at lesbian chic, whatever she may be in the comics.

The island stuff is completely boring for me.

Either Lance knows Oliver is the Arrow, or green eyeshadow is the equivalent of Superman putting on spectacles.

Re death penalty for Moira: I want a jailbreak arc!

Lance has already suspected Ollie as the Hood before with fairly convincing evidence.

Since then, Hood/Arrow has displayed an Angel complex for Laurel, and now his two sidekicks are Felicity and Dig.

If Lance doesn't know, then there's good reason he was demoted.

I hope they address this soon, otherwise it's going to be Smallville syndrome all over again.

Yeah, pretty sure, Lance knows and will very soon let Ollie know that he knows. he is pretty much already a member of the team anyway if this episode is anything to go by.

So much namedropping. Metamorpho, Amazo, Cin, and most of all Ra's al Ghul.

This show is so amazing, infinitely better than Agents of Shield.

Sin? You mean the elementary school age girl who first appeared in one of my favorite comics, the first volume of Birds of Prey? I knew about her. I’ve read that whole run of BoP and really enjoyed it. I also know she’s not a 20+ year old punk sidekick of BC. I’m almost certain that they never called her Sin in her appearance in Arrow, and even if they did and I've forgotten my mind would probably not have connected her with the comic book BC’s very young foster daughter. There is taking a name and using it differently in a TV show (I guess Felicity’s name was taken from some character so obscure I’ve never even heard of her) but if this is supposed to be Sin, it’s definitely the weirdest name stealing for a new character that Arrow has done so far, and this is the series that made Count Vertigo into a petty drug dealer (which was really lame, but even that was kind of understandable).

The guy that bought the "stolen" alcohol from Roy said something to the effect of, "Cindy, ya know, Sin" when he was telling Roy everything he knew about Black Canary and who might know anything about her.

As to the aging of the Sin character, if they had gone with an actress more closely aligned in age to the comics character, that would have severely limited Sin's potential on the show. She would just look like a Hit-Girl rip-off (despite which character premiered first) and the show runners would have to devote too much time explaining this young girl's history to the audience -- a character twice removed from the main protagonist on the show at this point. Making Black Canary a surrogate parent to child would also make her seem much older than they probably intend to portray her.

As the character exists now on the show, she can be a sounding board and capable partner for Black Canary and offer a foil of equal stature to Roy (i.e., sidekick vs. sidekick).

I get why they would age her, but why even use the name? No non comic fan knows about her, and its just confusing if you know the comic book version. Its not a huge deal. I doubt she'll get any real screen time, but its a bit annoying. I wish they'd stop using names that go so poorly with the characters they're using. Between the worst use of the Count Vertigo character's name possible, and Sin the 20 something punk, I'm starting to get worried that we'll be getting characters like Thomas Blake, the 80 year old vet who takes care of Deadshot's cat, or Carrie Cutter, a 15 year old Arrow fangirl who becomes a serial killer. Actually, that idea for Cuttler, aka Cupid, isn't horrible, but my point stands. They don't have to be strictly like the comic book characters, a lot of Arrow's good characters like Slade and Felicity aren't, but I'd prefer the name to atleast kind of fit, and not just be used because they wanted to use a name from the comics.

^ Seriously, that makes no sense at all. Sin wasn't some random, arbitrary name they pulled out of a hat. It is a name that has a direct connection to a particular DC character, and no other character. It is a name that is connected to Black Canary, and it was used in a connection to Black Canary.

Why on Earth you think using Cupid would be fine but using Sin is not, is not supported by your statements. Your point doesn't stand.

I know nothing about Sin but from what I looked up she does not seem that far off. On the age issue? Her and Canary probably have known each other for awhile. They may show flashbacks to when they met and she was younger.

The Roy Harper in Arrow isn't a young teen who is the ward of Oliver Queen. Do you object to him?

Yeah. I just looked her up, and I see plenty of ways that they could Arrowfy the character's backstory.
I really enjoyed this episode. The Arrow story with the Doll Maker was good, and we got some interesting stuff on the Island. I was really glad to get some development on Laurel's issues, and Black Canary. I figured they would go for at least a few more episodes before we saw this much of her. I thought the sonic device was a great way to work the canary cry into the show without introducing super powers yet. I honestly feel like an idiot for not thinking of it myself. I did not expect a Ra's Al Ghul reference, but I loved it.
As for a connected universe, I think the most we'll see is Arrow and The Flash. Maybe they could connect them to the movies too, but I doubt we'll see any connections to shows on other networks.

I already said that I don’t need the show to match the comic, especially if they have a good idea. That said, Roy Harper is recognizable, and either way the name makes sense, as Arrow's Roy seems like he's similar enough to the concept of the character. Giving BC a random sidekick named after a 5 year old is just stupid, even if the name is connected to BC. They’ve already made BC an assassin, which I’m not a fan of even though I like the implication that Ra’s Al Ghul exists in the Arrow universe. She doesn’t need a sidekick, and I just don’t like that they’ve pulled a very unfitting character’s name to give to the sidekick. It’s like giving Roy a long lost twin sister named Lian Harper, or Olliver a second cousin named Conner Hawke. Both names are associated with Arrow characters, but neither of those contexts are the right way to use the names, and Sin is the same way. It doesn’t really matter. She’s practically an extra who just hangs out with BC and will probably be dead before the seasons done. She's easily ignored. Unless she somehow gets a story arc or a large amount of screentime, which I doubt she will, she’s just a minor annoyance in a great show.

Last time I checked Roy Harper in the comics wasn't a street kid who dates Green Arrow's little sister. Other than being a ginger with a thing for red clothes, I'm not seeing much in common. Has TV-Roy even picked up a bow?

What about Sebastian Blood? His not much like Brother Blood in the comics, is he? What about using the name "Sin" for a character who is an ally of Black Canary pushes things over the line, but different takes on other characters don't?

I really don't see a problem with either of those examples that you use there. Sure they're not the exact same relationship to the characters as they are in the comics, but they're still relatives, and that is close enough for me. These are adaptations, not an exact recreation of the comics, and really as long as what we get is close to the comics then that's pretty good in my book.

So now we know who the Canary is. Too bad they couldn't get Jacqueline MacInnes Wood back. Caity Lotz is good tho.

Also, I like that this show moves things along pretty quickly. They could drag things out more but they don't.

I'm thinking that maybe Sarah will die or disappear again and Laurel will take up her cause as Black Canary.

I have never MacInnes in anything but her appearance in the Pilot was so brief. They probably recast the part because they wanted someone who as up for playing this fully developed character. Instead of just a girl who probably chosen for her looks.
