He was spotted in a restaurant Sunday 2 weeks ago and then out last night. Would they need him here for 2 weeks to film a scene like that?

^ The question still remains .... Have they even started filming yet? Are the cameras rolling?

That was reported to start in a week or two. Perhaps he's just hanging out?

^ bear in mind that this is the guy who famously moaned earlier this year about living in Belfast for 5 years and that it was a nice place to visit 'for 2 or 3 days.' I'd be surprised if he was here any longer than he had to be.

IIRC last year they were filming in July (scroll back somewhere on the thread, I think I mentioned it at the time), earlier than people realised. I found out from a friend who's done extras' work on it. It stands to reason that if they're using Kit, they'd try to shoot his scenes outside the anticipated schedule.

    Bump!

    http://variety.com/2015/tv/news/game-of-thrones-ian-mcshane-1201554773/

Ian McShane has been cast in a on unspecified but apparently important role, though it will only involve 3 episodes. Enron or Victarion Lovejoy...er, Greyjoy? Or a combination of them? Lord Tarly? Or possibly one of the Stark loyalists/Northern lords who are supposed to appear?

Meanwhile, Kit Harington continues to be regularly spotted and photographed all over Belfast, while HBO execs are now saying that the show will run for at least 8 seasons.

If he's one of the Greyjoys, then maybe their late inclusion to the show will be bearable. However, I still wish they remained omitted.

^ I hope he's not one of them, for the simple reason that he's done the pirate thing already in POTC and one of the Shrek movies. It'd be a little unimaginative (albeit still pretty good casting). I'm hoping he's Lord Tarly or a Northerner.

Well, I've caved. I finally admitted to myself the show will finish first and that there was zero chance of remaining unspoiled until the last book comes out, so I'm watching the show. I'm half way through season one.

It's pretty much following the book so far...

Didn't George RR Martin once mention the need for a Walter White type character in GOT? This could be it.

Ian would be great as the mad king in flashbacks.

Yes, that would be phenomenal. He might even get to throw in a cocksucker or two and no one would blink.

There have been rumors that we'll see some kind of confirmation for the R+L=J theory this year. I read a couple of weeks ago (I think in io9's "morning spoilers" articles) that they'll be filming in Spain at a location that would be ideal for the Tower of Joy.

I read the same article. They had pictures of the location. It would fit.

Hi there. Haven't visited this thread in months, and the last few pages seem to be all HBOThrones news, so no one may be the least interested in this, but - I'm doing the great re-read in prep for Book 6, which recent rumors mark as possibly finished and into the publishing process. "Martin posted [on his blog] that he will be going to New York and New Jersey, and that "while I will be travelling, my army on minions will be here at the old homestead, toiling in the paper mines."

Some interesting things are emerging while reading - I pop in and out of SoIaF forums to see what the speculation is, but my knowledge is in no way thorough, so pardon me if my ideas are old hat.

    1) While I've seen more than a few comments of people anticipating a final battle between the Others and the dragons, in Book One, Old Nan tells Bran that it was the children of the forest who defeated the Others the last time they rose. This certainly illuminates Bran's storyline.

    2) Sansa's transformation into Alayne Stone (particularly striking in The Winds of Winter excerpt on Martin's site) has seemed a sort of nowhere plot line, but we all know Littlefinger has designs on the Iron Throne himself. Two or three times in A Game of Thrones, Ned mentions that Robert Baratheon's first bastard child (and thus his truest heir since the Lannister children are not his) was a girl, born in the Vale when Robert was quite young. Could Littlefinger be after turning Sansa into this missing bastard so that she has a claim to the throne? He could then marry her and be king. Quite a gamble, but then - it's Littlefinger.

This of course would be completely irrelevant to HBOThrones, which has taken Sansa in a different direction. Though, they've been know to take some circuitous routes to the same spot.

    Just a few thoughts...

Robert's first bastard isn't missing - she's Mya Stone, Sansa's new friend in the Vale and someone fairly well-known within the Vale. Replacing Sansa with her would be nigh-impossible, even for Littlefinger.

Ah - thanks. I see that is established in A Storm of Swords - I'm only into A Clash of Kings on the re-read, so I'll keep an eye out for it. Back to trying to figure out what Littlefinger is up to with Sansa then...

Spoilery information from filming is starting to trickle in; here is a recent roundup. Looks like they're doubling back to cover some of the material from Feast and Dance that wasn't used year, with Euron and Aeron Greyjoy set to appear and Jaime apparently headed to the riverlands.
