I'm confused about the storyline though, shouldn't there be Cylons/Toasters around already to make life easier? And the society should be more advanced that the Colonial one right?

Time jumps aren't unheard of in the shows in this universe. ;)

I haven't watched the pilot yet cause of no blu-ray version out. Are those in the series?

It'd be weird if they dropped them. We see one-eyed servant robots, and some fairly advanced computer stuff (including crazy electronic paper interfaces) in the pilot.

No, this show is about the *invention* of the Cylons.

Uh, Caprica *is* a colony, you understand... ;)

Keep in mind, that at the time of the show, the Colonies are not unified. So therefore, this is not really a depiction of "Colonial society" the way BSG was.

Caprica pilot was awesome, especially the last 20 minutes or so. Maybe better than any of the BSG season 4 episodes. I loved the noir look and feel of the show, the cast is great, and Esai Morales and Eric Stoltz were both great. I am very interested in exploration of what the Colonies were like - it seems that there was a lot of corruption and decadence and some racism - and in the ethical side of the story of the creation of AI beings. A lack of spacebattles doesn't concern me at all, since I tend to be bored by them anyway, unless they are really wonderfully made, and it's certainly not what I watch SF for.

    Oh. Right.

How long before nuBSG did unification take place?

52 years before the miniseries, either immediately before or, more likely, immediately after the beginning of the Cylon War. So, six years after the pilot of Caprica.

I thought it was sixty years? Wasn't there a line in Colonial Day that said something about the Colonies being united for sixty years?

If so, that can be explained away as an approximation.

That is one pretty girl, indeed. I wonder what role she will play in the series. I rephrase, not who she will be but how big the role will be.

She's the lynchpin of the whole story!
She's the Cylon replacement for Eric Stoltz's dead daughter and therefore the Eve that brings the serpent of AI trouble into the so-called Eden of Caprican society.

Okay that's a strained metaphor at best but we wouldn't want this story to be boringly straightforward. :D

Well, isn't everyone saying she's the Eve? One of the first consequences of Eve gaining the knowledge from the apple is becoming self-conscious of the fact she's naked. But while the Biblical Eve felt a trifle shamed by this loss of innocence and wanted to get clothing, this Caprica Eve is a trifle more titalling and coy - but eh, same difference.

After all, if BSG could give us angels who screw us into behaving according to God's plan, then giving Eve a similar edge works just as well.

And even ignoring the poster, let's not pretend that it's irrelevant that our father figure has a fantastically beautiful daughter and not a portly and rotund daughter. People want to see pretty people on TV and it's not terribly hard to deduce why, so well, let's oblige. 'Watch this show and you get to ogle this girl!' the poster exclaims, and I'd expect the TV series will deliver.

Will it also deliver an interesting sci-fi premise and consistently entertaining drama? No idea, but I hope so.
