...pretend as you will, Neyrs, but the real nightmare is, it happened...yep...I was flunking out of college, the first time around, grovin' to the indescribable (and better left so) sounds of KC and the Sunshine Band...doing a new dance called the "Popcorn" (Mommy, make it stop!)...TJ was yet to be, and Shat was just finishing up TAS...I owned a pair of Platform Tennis Shoes (google for the image, I dare not post here...all who see will assuredly go blind) and could sing the music and recite every line from Car Wash...every white boy in my area wanted to be reborn as a tough-talkin' Black Man (no Racial Thread nonesense meant, just fact)...I think the BeeGees and Saturday Night Dengue Fever can just get threads of their own...screaming now, they are pullihm ,e awau frm th kleaboerd...ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.........

^I tried looking up the Homer Simpson version of that last one, but couldn't find it with the original video.

I seem to recall that these guys were kind of popular in certain circles back in the day:

And a few more artists of the era that I haven't seen pop up yet:

This decade also gave Roger Moore a couple of the best Bond title songs:

Every single girl in my 7th grade class was in love with Shaun Cassidy. Meaning even if he was the greatest musical talent since Dylan I probably would have hated him.

That being said, in hindsight, I have to admit that a few of the Eric Carmen songs he covered weren't bad.

Not as good as the originals, understand, but decent pop songs.

A guy I'm friends with was in Lennon's band during that time period.

I always wished whoever shot that footage had spent a little less time on John and thrown in a few longer shots of the players. I'd love to be able to spot my friend in the footage.

In any event, continuing the mind soap, here's some Springsteen from that same approximate time period, you know, back when Bruce could still write songs that were fun:

My regards to your Plastic Ono Elephant's Memory friend...and my belated, very sarcastic thanks to you for reminding me of what an insidious earworm "You Light Up My Life" was.

In the interest of full disclosure, my sister had that single back in the day, and single-digits me actually listened to it willingly. I always had a sentimental streak in me, which is why, years before I knew from Paul or the Beatles, I loved this song on the radio:

Hopefully that returns the favor! :p

A couple more from that world tour:

My dad had "You Light of my life" and would play it over and over.

At the same time, he also played this album over and over:

    So he wasn't completely lame.

Heh...that reminds me of something I was told by an old friend who was an original-generation Beatles fan. As I recall him telling it, his father had nothing good to say about the Beatles and blamed them for all of society's ills...yet for some unexplained reason, he'd listen to "Yellow Submarine" over and over again.

On a completely unrelated note, to make good use of my post...I'm regretting that I hadn't thought to include this is the same post as "Convoy":

My parents had me relatively young. My father was only about 38 or 39 when Parallel lines came out. So him listening to something "modern" wasn't that shocking.

Of course, had it been a Blondie video, I think it would have been a lot less surprising he took an interest. ;)
