I just think the whole "anniversary=multi Doctors" thing is a really boring conceit that only worked once (The Three Doctors)...

Maybe "the moment" is something that requires 2 Timelords to use, or at least activate.

Then 11 would have to, knowingly, help 8 start whatever it was he used to finish the Time War.

I, for one, would love to see any and all living actors return for the anniversary, Tom most of all. A curly wig & some makeup would do.

I would love to see the 8th Doctor return as well, my idea though was a flashback story told by the 11th Doctor.

I'm not enthusiastic about the idea of Moffat writing a multi-Doctor adventure. Based on "The Pandorica Opens," "A Good Man Goes to War," and "The Wedding of River Song," he'd write a fanwank that makes "The Five Doctors" look positively restrained. :)

However, if Moffat does want to do the multi-Doctor route, I'd hope he would do something original. The eleventh Doctor and a pre-"Unearthly Child" first Doctor (before he'd even left Gallifrey) would be perfect. (And I imagine that Benedict Cumberbatch could nail the irascible assholishness of a young first Doctor very well.)

On the flipside I'm still hoping for a tv movie similar to ITV's The Road to Coronation Street.

There were rumors a few months ago that Mark Gatiss was writing a script for the very thing.

I've noticed a number of people (not just here) have been suggesting a multi-Doctor adventure including a pre-"An Unearthly Child" Doctor and I've been mostly against, but I have to say the idea of Benedict Cumberbatch playing a young First Doctor is inspired. I doubt it'll happen but I would love it nonetheless.

Agreed. This also gives him some proper closure. Lifetimes later he makes the same decision again, confirming it is the right one, though perhaps with the rescue of some of his people unbeknownst to his earlier incarnation.

Maybe it's me but I've always felt the 8th Doctor is more loved by fandom than TPTB. Maybe both loved and dismissed by different parties because he's done so much Who outside of TV?

    What if there's cake?

Yeah, I've been on pre-"Unearthly Child" bandwagon for fifteen months now. :)

I'm not sure how the idea of Cumberbatch as the young-young Doctor came from, but it struck me suddenly this afternoon and when I thought about it I could see it. And, oddly, not because of his Sherlock work. More like the way he carries himself and talks in interviews.

I think that a lot of the love for the eighth Doctor has nothing to do with anything the Doctor has done and everything to do with what fans assume the Doctor's done. Fandom widely assumes that the eighth Doctor is the one that fought the Time War, that burned Gallifrey, and destroyed the Daleks. That assumption colors the way the Doctor is seen. Suddenly, he's become a far more important figure in Doctor Who history than his ninety minutes of screen time (or, for that matter, the evidence) would suggest.

Another vote for a '"Where are they now?" companion special. Or what Allyn said. Its about time for an origin story.

They 'multiple Doctors' and "The Doctors greatest enemies join forces" stories have been done to death.

I hate to say this but...in all honesty a multi-Doctor and/or companion and/or familiar enemy(ies) story is fanwank, and nobody right now, IMO, can hold a candle to RTD for writing fanwank. If they go that route, I'm hoping RTD is the one who writes it, not Moffat.

Well. . . they could always mix it up a bit and have 11 face off against a mystery time lord who turns out to be a pre-Hartnell incarnation of the Doctor. Minds blown! Excitement abounds!

I half wrote a fanfic which involved the moment requiring heaps of energy to operate, but the daleks destroy the power source. Out of options, the doctor plunges a knife into his chest, and uses the power of the regeneration to activate it. He crawls into the Tardis where he sees his new face and realises what he's truly done.
