Do we know yet what the whole protest thing is actually being used for? From what I understand, Peter Davison has given the impression it's a secret project that can't be talked about(?), but, I don't know if what it actually is has been revealed yet?

    So's the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th!

And the whole Hurt thing was just a misdirection!

What? It was all a dream? Oh yeah!

No, he isn't. Neither are any of the other classic Doctors or companions. I think the words "Missed Opportunity" are rather appropriate now...

Or, "bad idea averted," those words could also be appropriate. We simply don't know.

    And?

Trailers/promotion for the new series, any new series on the BBC occur around this time, I've been seeing indents on the different BBC channels for a week or so and we had that trailer after Strictly on Saturday and we all know when it will be on and a perceived lack of promotion will not mean it isn't being shown.

As I've said else where, I am very glad there isn't a full blown bells and whistles trailer, I personally do not want to know the exact beats of the episode.

As a fan i would like to see a trailer, simple as that. If trailers are useless please tell every one else who does one for there productions. Trailers are marketing 101, they serve to build hype. 'Hey did you see the trailer for 'XX film' yet? It's really cool I totally want to see that film/show now.' These are specials not the regular tv show. The BBC does not seem to know how to build hype for any of the 50th stuff.

But there has been a trailer, there have been numerous indents on BBC One and the other BBC channels.

We're a month out, it's happening, but, and this is something which quiet a few people seem to fail to grasp, the BBC doesn't do massive promotion for anything more than a month in advance, yes, they'll do a "Original British Drama" trailer, but they're normally a one off for new and sometimes unique dramas that very few people have heard of several months in advance. But when it comes to Who, and this is something that seems to occur when a new series obviously be on at Easter, they don't advertise before now.

As a fan, I know when it's happening, unless the world ends, or I end, I'll be watching it on Saturday November 23rd 2013, I also pretty much know what I'll be doing, me and the future mrs dimesdan are holding a Who themed house warming party and in the weeks that are coming, regardless of a "proper" trailer, the viewing public will know.

The trailer we got did a better job than any trailer showing actual footage could.

Exactly, it's a shame not everyone appreciates that.

I LOVE the teaser, but thats what it is - a teaser!

I am annoyed, of course, on the lack of a trailer by this point, but I don't really care after today - I may give it a go if its released until November 1st, but after that I'll just wait for the actual special itself. Whats the point of being spoiled 13 days before seeing it, when it should've been shown MONTHS ago?

I suppose I understand why it might be better to just focus on 3 Doctors rather than try to cram them all in. But what bothers me is that it's so heavily focused on the new series.

I think it would have been interesting to see the contrast between Matt Smith & the 1st Doctor (played by David Bradley). It might have even helped to acclimate the new fans to the idea of an older Doctor.

I like David Tennant just fine. But the more I think about it, I think my big problem with it is that he's the immediately preceeding Doctor. If the special were pairing up the 9th & 11th Doctors or the 10th & 12th Doctors, I think I'd have an easier time processing it. But 10th & 11th just feels too soon.

And, unless we're all very much mistaken, why are they creating this fake John Hurt Doctor when they've got a perfectly good and criminally underused Paul McGann?!?!:klingon: McGann has even shown us numerous times in the audios that he can do a great dark Doctor. (Seriously, listen to "The Natural History of Fear" if you haven't already. It's phenomenal.)

Now, I do have faith in Moffat, to a degree anyway. Maybe the special will hit exactly the right tone as far as honoring the show's past without resorting to excessive cameos. But by not including some prior actors, he's certainly giving himself very little wiggle-room as far as many fans are concerned.

But then, Moffat is an old-time fanboy himself, so at least we've got that on our side.

Yeah Tennant was a fairly recent Doctor, but I still find myself really excited to see him again for some reason. And like it or not, he is one of the most beloved Doctors EVER, at least to the general audience. So it's not surprising at all that they'd want to bring him back.

And with all due respect to McGann, he's no John Hurt. Plus I think there's something much more interesting about a Mystery Doctor we've never seen before, than a Doctor from the past who simply went through a dark and moody period.

Yeah, Tennant is the most popular doctor now (although older fans still love Tom Baker).

But at the end of the day, I'd rather have McGann or Eccleston than Hurt. Hurt is a good actor, but he was never a proper doctor. I'd much rather have McGann, Eccleston, or even both to John Hurt.

Should've? By whose reckoning? Isn't it better to wait and see the whole thing completely unspoiled?

    We don't know that.

Again, perhaps there'll be an answer for that? What if the Hurt Doctor turns out to be villainous, in a Valeyard way? Would you be happy if they'd turned the eighth Doctor into a villain?

Its not a 50th Anniversary, its a 8th Anniversary featuring a made up doctor and 10th an 11th doctor. You want your true classic doctors , then go get the Light and the End. That's the last new stuff you get cause anything you might get from Moffat is what we got in The Name of The Doctor.

Moffat made it pretty clear that this is about Hurt, Tennant an Smith and that's it.

Now why couldn't Moffat gone and wrote this for another special and gave us fans a real 50th special I don't know. To think we wont ever see the classic doctors ever on film again playin their roles is shame.

But Moffat has his 2 buddies Smith an Tennant in it and that is all he cares about.
Maybe when we get a different show runner we can maybe then get a cross over with the classic doctors.

Honestly those whom say the actors are too old, don't look like themselves anymore etc, so freaking what, its the 50th Anniversary for heavens sake, not a run of the mill episode. 100 yrs from now they will look back to the 50th and wonder, how stupid was the BBC to exclude all those former living doctors just so Moffat can have his buddies.

As for trailers, I think the BBC have actually started trailing DOTD earlier than any other show!!
Hell Ripper Street is back on tonight, and the first trailer I saw for that was Saturday!

The plot and cast of the 50th Anniversary Special have been much debated by Whovians worldwide. However, Moffat was less keen to reveal details about the true content of the show, beyond that fan favourites David Tennant and Billie Piper were known to be returning. He said,

“Well, do you know, all I've ever revealed about what we’re doing in Doctor Who is anything that we've filmed outside, so I'm rather reticent about what’s actually in there. I notice people are making up stuff about who or what is or is not in that special, You’re just going to have to wait until November to find out the truth.”

He also refused to be drawn on which of the rumours about the show were closest to the mark and which caused him the most amusement. He warned about jumping to conclusions too early.

“Most of them are quite fanciful and some are entertainingly angry,” he said, “People who make up their own theories about what is or is not in the special and then make a YouTube film about how angry they are about their own theory... Oh, I love you all, Doctor Who fans, but now and then don’t believe everything you hear or don’t hear.”
