They're not even trying anymore. Naked Gun and Hot Shots, they had a PLOT! And when they spoofed movies, they put their own spin on things and didn't simply rehash the scenes. Plus they actually had regular jokes that didn't involve spoofing.

You know a character spoof or a cameo is bad if you have to say the name of the person.

I think most of the people who pay to see these movies are just looking for a cool, dark place to talk to their friends, make out, and send text messages.

I've seen Hellboy 2 and TDK, so I'm pretty much done with movies for the rest of the year.

    A sign of hope...maybe.

Ah yes, good ol' Maddox produced this gem. Funny how that song can be a double entendre on how shitty the music industry is right now and how that song finds its way to terrible parody movies.

This should actually be a trick, in that the movie doesn't really exist, and all the people who pay money at the cinema to go see this will walk into the theatre and be executed as horrifically as possible.

    That would be good

I don't even think this qualifies as spoof anymore. It's random actors who need to eat dressed up as other actors repeating one-liners and performing basic slapstick taught to them in high school drama class. You could go to a cosplay convention and get the same damn thing, plus the added entertainment value of fat guys in Sailor Moon costumes.

Then at the end when she holds up two strips of bacon, and Topper holds up two T-bone steaks.

And the late Lloyd Bridges too

"God I love a good funeral."

"I personally flown over 147 missions in my life and I was shot down in every one of them. Come to think about it, I don't think I've ever landed a plane in my life."

"Holy crap, my hat blew off, turn around and get it."
But sir, we're on the mission.
Right, put Rabinowitz in a life raft and have him row in circles till we get back.
But sir, that could take days.
Then put some food in the life raft. Good God man, do I have to think about everything we'll tape his favorite shows he won't miss anything.

And the weirdest thing is they didn't even use the Cox breakfast sausages commercials in the movie.

I watched both Hot Shots! yesterday. Lloyd Bridges does the "confused" guy in charge a lot better than Leslie Nielsen, who seems to get those roles now.

Yeah, Nielsen was best when he was playing it straight. That's what made Airplane work so well.

Lloyd Bridges- Why aren't those soldiers moving!

Nowadays the humor is juvenile. There aren't any scenes like this anymore and "blazing saddles" spit in the face of political correctness.

What I find really funny is that all this highbrow film criticism is in a thread on a Star Trek message board.

psst. you're on that board too

And what does that have to do with anything? A good portion of Trek is pretty high dramatic stuff (mostly TOS, TNG and DS9) and we've got a very diverse group of people who like a wide range of dramatic pieces.

Your implication suggests that our liking Star Trek and criticising DM being "funny" is that Trek is somehow "less" than a stupid "parody" movie that is a bunch of random scenes stitched together.

That suggestion is pretty damn bold of you.

And it still doesn't make any sense. Take a look around and you'll see plenty of people around here like and enjoy much wider ranges of entertainment beyond Trek and rightfully criticising Disaster Movie for the crap it is.
