The movie is only partly drawing on The Dark Knight Returns. Snyder said this about doing a more direct adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns: "If you were going to do that, you would need a different Superman. We’re bringing Batman into the universe that now this Superman lives in."

Remember that both Lex Luthor and a another Superman villain (presumably Metallo) will both be in MOS 2. I doubt the title will be Batman vs Superman if it features those villains.

It may have a "versus" title if the story has them as antagonists through much of the film and then teaming up at the end.

^It looks legit & pretty close to what little we've seen in the two Snyder photos.
It also looks like it could somehow fly, half finished like that. I wonder if we'll get a Batmobile/Batplane combo this time, instead of a bike.

A little Frank Miller, a little Lee Bermejo, a few other influences there but still clearly designed to sit next to Snyder's Superman. I dig it, I dig it more than I dig his take on Superman's duds actually.

^ No biggie. The costume director said that Superman will have a new costume for this movie.

Why do you think the audience is stupid? Superman and Batman on the poster, and the title “World's Finest“, and people get it.

I agree. Though I still don't think it will be called that (much as I'd like it to be).

Well, Superman vs. Batman was the title they used in the same press release that announced it would be followed by a Justice League movie. The articles I read at the time asserted that to mean that this was the title they'd decided on. Although I see now that IMDb is calling it Batman vs. Superman instead and Wikipedia just calls it an untitled sequel, so maybe I was misinformed.

Well, of course. I never said it would be an exact adaptation, but the point is that it's obviously the main influence on their portrayal of Batman. So I don't expect to see Batman and Superman chumming around like they did in World's Finest.

First of all, it's not about what I think, it's about what the movie marketers would think, because they're the ones making the decisions. Second, titles aren't seen exclusively on posters, but used in text and communicated through word of mouth.

Besides, it's a matter of impressions. The comics-fan audience is maybe one percent or less of the target audience for a major motion picture. Say the rest of that audience sees a poster of Superman and Batman with the title World's Finest. What does that title tell them about what Superman and Batman will be doing? It doesn't really convey action or excitement, and it would probably look pretty weird to people who aren't familiar with comics history. The only reason comics fans like the title is nostalgia. Set aside that affection for the familiar, look at it objectively, and it's not a great title. I mean, it sounds like something you'd see printed on an egg carton. Remember, the original title of the book was World's Finest Comics (actually World's Best Comics to start, but only for one issue). It wasn't a reference to Superman and Batman themselves, because it was an anthology title featuring adventures of numerous superheroes, anchored by Superman and Batman stories in every issue. The title was blatant self-promotion, a boast that this comic book was the best around. It's a relic of the commercial hucksterism of the 1940s.

I think you need to better communicate what's your position and what you think is someone else's position.

When communicated in text or word of mouth, it's never going to be standalone. Just like The Avengers wasn't communicated that way. It was always in context that Iron Man, Thor Captain America and Hulk team up.

What does the title Iron Man, Superman, Amazing Spider-Man, or The Avengers convey? The sequel to this film is perhaps going to be called Justice League, doesn't convey anything either.

A little while ago, WB registered some domains that seem to suggest this list of possible titles:

^That was months ago. I'm talking about a press release from earlier this month.

I'm very curious for Superman's costume reveal. I wasn't a big fan of the suit from the last movie either. I know I'll probably be crucified for this, but I'd like to see something a little more along the lines of the New 52 suit.

You expressed concern about the portrayal of Superman in The Dark Knight Returns. That's what I was addressing by providing the quote from Snyder and the fact that it's only partly influenced by TDKR.

Hopefully the new supersuit will be a couple shades brighter.
