Admiral Leyton's Conspiracy

Aside from Odo's presence on Earth giving Section 31 the opportunity to infect him with a disease meant to wipe out the Changelings, what did Admiral Leyton's conspiracy against the Federation in "Homefront" and "Paradise Lost" accomplish for the series' main plots?

Nothing, other than show how crazy the Changling threat was making people.

It was a standalone story about the important of not relinquishing civil rights and liberties during times of crisis.

What Sci said. Also it showed the depth of the Changeling infiltration in the AQ, the increasing necessity of taking the threat of the disruption of the peace in the AQ and a possible Dominion invasion seriously.

I wonder how different things would've been had they kept it as originally planned as the Season 3 finale.

We would have lost the best parts of DS9 IMO. Season 3 onwards, DS9 looked great to me.

We possibly wouldn't have had the whole Klingon war arc since it was planned after the decision was made not to have Homefront be the end of season cliffhanger and instead we might have got a civil war storyline.
