I can't watch this show anymore because of Baltar

Wow, seriously the Baltar character has all but ruined this show for me. Seriously, who thought of this tool of a character? I have a hard time buying this dbag continuously selling out his own race for the cylons. I'm in the middle of S2 and just got done watching Epiphanies and for a second it looked like Baltar finally grew a pair but by the end of the episode he was back selling out his race for a piece of cylon ass again.

Geez, how can they made a character so unrealisticly dumb? Who the hell would do the dumb shit he does? So unrealistic

I bought all of Baltar's actions. He's self serving and when he thinks the Cylons will win he throws his lot in with them.

It's not unrealistic at all. People act like that all the time. A great example are the actions of numerous people in Nazi occupied France or other western European countries during WWII. Constantly switching sides with only their own preservation in mind.

Baltar's one of my favorite characters if not my favorite character on the show. I think he's very human in his actions, which is one of the reasons I like him so much. Plus I adore Callis's performance.

I would love to live your life if this is true because I encounter people like Baltar on a bi-hourly basis.

Although I do agree that Epiphanies is a low-point in the series, I never bought into the idea of Cylon-sympathising terrorists and Baltar giving them a nuke was incredulous. There will be repercussions for his actions though in a great scene toward the end of the season, and I think the haunting beauty of that scene justifies how moronic this episode is. Don't give up because of this one episode.

Same. I remember that in the podcast, RDM mentioned that it wasn't the original idea. As the episode played out in the first draft, Balter was just going to give up and let Roslin die, but he reads her letter where she says he's a pretty kick-ass guy, and he's inspired and figures out the cancer cure. One of the network's notes would that it might be more of a fun subversion if Balter saves Roslin, then reads the letter where she says she thinks he's a sniveling little shit who would never do something like save Laura Roslin, and then he gets pissed off and does something stupid to spite her.

I think Baltar giving the nuke to the terrorists was easily his most out-of-character moment in the entire show (though his conversation with Roslin in "The Hub" is a close runner up. I can accept that one, though, since Baltar was high as a kite at the time).

Would you really call it out of character? Personally, I do think it goes to far for a reaction which is basically one of feeling insulted and beytrayed. But I'm not sure I'd flat-out call it out of character.

I suppose another question is whether he's giving it to the terrorists as much as he's giving it to Gina.

The nuke thing was just dumb, Baltar is about saving his own ass over everyone else no matter the cost. He could quite easily have been caught in a nuke blast.

Yeah, it's not so much out-of-character as it is a Flanderization.

That's how I read it. He wants in Gina's pants, he gives Gina a nuke he thinks she can use. Still, the decision might have played better if Head!Six had shown up and twisted his arm to do it, as she had with his request for the nuke in the first place. Given what we can figure from God's Plan, it seems likely that It wanted human and Cylon to settle on New Caprica, so such interference would make sense.

Sure we never cared for Baltar...that's the way he was written.

The fact is he's critical to the whole story and just as important as Starbuk.

Could there have been an Exodus without Moses?

There certainly couldn't have been an Exodus without Baltar, he's the one who got them all trapped on that rock. Without him we would not have had the Adama Manoeuvre or the one-eyed Tigh, and I think I speak for us all when I say that we're all incredibly thankful for those.

I thought this was going to be about season 4 Baltar.

Baltar is one of the most "realistic" characters I've seen on episodic TV in a long time.
