Star Trek IV: Giacchino-style

I was listening to "Enterprising Young Men" again today and had a little idea. Here's what the finale of The Voyage Home is like with Giacchino's Star Trek score.

Good job, but thank god that score wasn't on Star Trek IV. I liked 4's score a lot more than XI.

Re: Star Trek IV: Giacchino-style

Thanks guys. I love Giacchino's score. It's weird because I was initially uneasy about the whole concept behind JJ's take, but I came around pretty quickly, and it was the same for the Enterprise, and for Giacchino's score. It is different, but I think its pretty good score. I hope he lets loose for the sequel.

I bought Rosenman's score for TVH about seven or eight years ago. It was the last of the classic film scores I had to buy, and it's never been a favorite. It has its moments, but I definitely enjoy Giacchino's score more.

The choice of score when they're cruising in Spacedock, about to find their "new" ship, makes it sound like the Big 7 are about to go kick some ass. LOVED it. Funny how a change of score can bring change of context, too.

Re: Star Trek IV: Giacchino-style

I thought the same thing, too. One of the best examples of how much a score affects a scene is in the music documentary on the Extended Edition DVD of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. The moment after Sam gives his speech in the finale, when the close-ups of Frodo, Sam and Gollum are on screen, was originally scored differently, and the final version is only slightly different, but the scene changes dramatically.

I think the Giacchino score works really well in this context. Kinda makes me think its not so different after all.

Nicely done.
