I thought the whole reason for the reboot was to give free reign to do whatever you want while still keeping in the traditions and hopefully messages of Trek. Bring something new to the table. There is a whole universe to explore, don't do familiar stories just for shits and giggles.

No, no, no, no, no, no, nooooooo! (Sorry to come so late to this thread.) I'm adjusting to the fact that Vulcan is gone - it was sacrificed in the cause of making Trek "fresh." OK. I can cope with that.

But if Vulcan could be sacrificed than for sure Khan ought to be. I mean, he's been the villain twice already. Twice. Enough. How does that fit in with "fresh"? It sounds positively moldy to me. Third time is definitely not the charm.

And no, Khan would definitely not constitute a fair exchange for Vulcan. Give me a break.

They want to rehash Khan for the same reason they made Kirk an at-risk-youth-turned-hero cliche, gave him giant hands and jar jar tongue: the idea of putting forth something original is frightening to them.

With this team, we can look forward to years of boldly going where movies have always gone before -- we'll explore every cliche and embed as much juvenile humor as possible. That's what nuTrek is all about.

Khan is fine to bring back into the story. I suggest Naveen Andrews as the obvious candidate.

Got to love the internet. Ask a guy about something specific and he says, basically, "not ruling anything out"....and suddenly everyone starts spinning it so it sounds like he brought up the notion in the first place.

We'll never see Khan again as a major character. That would just be stupid for anyone making a Star Trek movie. You'd immediately be inviting comparisons to what is almost universally loved by Trek fans as the best movie and villain, so why would you even want to go there? Do something new. I think Abrams is smart enough to know this.
