No, on the outside of the ship... if you watch between 1:27-1:29 in full-screen mode you can see what I'm talking about. It's kind of up-side down, but it looks like R2's head popping out...

Here is the best one I could get of the Scotty/alien "pea" moment described above.

There is definitely some sort of cylindrical blur behind him, with the flat screen, but honestly I can't tell... Hmmm... tonight is the last IMAX night...

Well after looking at the photo long enough I can coincesly say I have a headache.

That photo is so inconclusive and blurry in spots you can barely tell that's Simon Pegg.

That is very annoying. He should not be there. How the heck am I supposed to fit that into canon?
Miss Piggy and Darth Vader were SPFX easter eggs planted in ST:TMP.

Right here, just like she said. Smack-dab in the middle. You can see his form, one of his side legs and his middle one. Most of all, you can definitely see his main eye:

He's not the right white and blue color, but it's him.

How is it him? I honestly can't see him, all I see is a very thin clinder.

No. That's not Artoo. In fact what you've outlined isn't even the shape of the object there!

Maybe it's in amongst the floating rubble that the Enterprise flies into when they get to Vulcan?

Good theory. Just like the heavy air traffic over Coruscant in EPISODE I helped hide where Lucas and ILM slipped in the Enterprise for her cameo.
Any screenshots? I never heard of that and I don't have TPM on DVD.

The debris field would be the most logical choice as the FX department was ILM.

Where's R2-D2? THERE'S R2D2!

Alright everybody, here is exactly where R2D2 is. I don't have any screen shots as I wouldn't know how to grab 'em.

Ready?

R2 appears towards the end of the film when Spock prime and old Spock meet. He appears a couple of minutes into their conversation. The exact point to find R2 is smack dab in old Spock's following dialog: "As my customary farewell would seem oddly self-serving, I shall simply say, good luck".

I've only seen one screen shot that came remotely close to finding him. But alas, they had focused on the wrong background item.

To be more specific, R2D2 is sitting on a platform in the background to the right of the screen. He sits next to a transporter and is actually covered in fog. About half way through old Spock's above mentioned dialog the fog is lifted and there he is, R2D2.

I have looked into other peoples' ideas of where R2 is only to find it was not him. Everywhere from when Kirk and old Spock meet Scotty to the destroyed ship's debris above Vulcan. He does not appear. I could see how someone could have mistaken these foriegn background items for R2 but I assure you these sightings are wrong.

If you find yourself back in the theatre, take a look. R2D2 is there. I have observed this sighting over four times. With each viewing he becomes more and more clear. Have a look-see!

It could be a very very clever competition. Think about it, it's only out in the cinemas, not legally in any other format, and to have a real chance of finding r2, you'd have to be able to search through with pause and rewind, therefore Paramount know that there's a fairly good chance that anybody who enters the competition has illegally downloaded the movie, and been kind enough to let Paramount know this, along with their address and personal details.

Or maybe I'm just an old cynic...

Sure, they might "know" - but they won't be able to prove so it doesn't really matter...
