Car Repairs...

Last night I'm working on my project van. Decided to pull the engine and transmission, lots of work involved there.

I'm under the car unbolting and disconnecting and working along when a shadow decends... I l look up to find an ANGRY WOMAN leaning over me screaming that it is 1AM and I had better get my ass to bed NOW or there would be VIOLENCE.

She's still mad this morning.

Whoops.

Re: Car Repairs...

No offense Pleco, but a Chrysler Town & Country? Let me guess, it has faux wood paneling on the side too. I don't think your wife was pissed about you working until 1AM. I think she was more pissed about the fact that she might have to drive that van again.

All kidding aside, how many miles are on it? My understanding is that the engine (3.8L V6???) was a very strong motor.

Re: Car Repairs...

It's green.

No fake wood on the sides.

The engine is very sound. It's the transmissions that were the weakpoint on these vans. Once I get that squared away, it's just a matter of some interior and exterior touchup and it'll be mint.

Decided to get into the auto-restoration hobby and I figure this is a good way to get my feet wet. Car has a few issues that I can repair, and most of the rest of it is pure sheetmetal work.

Eventually I'll have some pictures up.

Re: Car Repairs...

Very cool. Looking forward to it. What other cars do you have in the stable?

Right now I only have two. A 1998 Toyota 4Runner (3.4L V6) with 180,000 miles and a recently purchased 2006 Audi A6 (4.2L V8) with 35,000 miles (wife's car).

Fun cars from the past were a 2004 Audi A4 1.8T, a 1994 Nissan 300ZX 2+2 and a 1987 Dodge Daytona ShelbyZ.

I'd like to pick up another car in the summer (2010). I'm thinking maybe a little pocket rocket like the Chevy Cobalt SS or Mazdaspeed3. We'll see though.

Ha ha, you can do 999,999 things as they would have you do and the ONE thing you don't.....THAT'S the thing they remember!

I wear a bandana when I play sports and sometimes forget to untie them before they go into the wash. Some months ago my wife said to me "how many times do I have to remind you...yada yada..." I said to her "that's all you got, isn't it? After 5 years of marriage that's ALL you got on me baby!".... She laughed and left me alone to watch the game. WOMEN!

Re: Car Repairs...

Wife drives a Malibu, I have a Rusted Ram, and a Buick Roadmaster station-wagon.

I don't like the Rusted Ram that much, it's a whore for 4WD repairs. Seems every time I shift it into 4WD mode it needs $1,500-2000 worth of repairs.

Going to end up trading that in and turning the van into my daily driver.

Or ... and here's a crazy idea ... you can buy a newer, much more reliable car.

I know, zany, right?

Re: Car Repairs...

It's not about having a newer-better car, it's about the pride one feels after restoring a POS to service.

Not everyone can do that you know...

Re: Car Repairs...

I could understand if you were restoring a classic muscle car. This Town and Country restoration ... i just don't get. I wish you the best in it and i want pictures.

I personally love having my 2004 Nissan Sentra.

May I just correct your poll;

I'm so not going to get any sex
Men do not understand women
I'll just buy a new car
I don't care what model it is.

And yes of course ~ you lose an arm wrestle against Mrs Plec, what chance would a punny English girl have?
Make it up to her!

apologise for X2 post *curtsies for mods*
