Will We Ever See Star Trek Prime Again?
in my ideal world, we'd get 3 movies from abrahams, ending our star trek phase 2 (i'm calling it in my head, i know ur thinking the potential 2nd star trek series but i'm referring to abrahams new trek "alternate reality" as he called it)
star trek prime being the original trek we know, both based off ent, prime being TOS TNG DS9 VOY
phase 2 being ENT + abrahams
i relaly want to put them both together but cant
ANYWAY
will we see star trek prime ever again?
i'd love to see a trilogy from abrahams and them go back to prime, another series set 15 years after nemesis (or whatever real time has passed would be cool)
if done well, good writing, good stories, good cameos (not just cheap corny ones)
anyway, i JUST saw the movie and...

You know those fan videos that take years and years to make a single TOS-esque episode?
I think you see where I'm going.

No, I don't think we will.
I could be wrong, however. Sean Connery did play in Never Say Never Again.

Re: Will We Ever See Star Trek Prime Again?
Honestly, I'm SICK TO DEATH of that universe. It gave us some good shows and 2 EXRUCIATINGLY shitty ones. Not to mention that every odd movie was generally garbage anyway. They simply ran out of ideas because the universe was being strangled by the bloated carcass of it's canon that was perpetuated by its obsessive compulsive fans.
We've already gone to the past (i.e. ST: ENT) and the ball was dropped. Go too far into the future and and the stories would be too disconnected from humanity. I.e. I'm guessing humans, 1000 years in the future will be nothing like us today (socially, physically, philosophically) and as an audience it would be difficult, if not impossible to relate to it. Not to mention a whole new slew of ridiculous technobabble that would accompany it.
No, this reboot was truly the only option. JJ Abrams is certainly not infallible; however, he has amazing vision and he takes risks. He took a gamble here and it paid off in spades. I have ZERO hesitation in handing this man the reigns to finally begin telling stories that are not suffocated by cannonical slavery!
Being a fan of ST since I was a kid, now at the age of 27, it had lost its magic; Star Trek was boring. I now see a reborn franchise that is robust and takes us away from the cheeseball dialogue about flux capacitors.
Star Trek prime? Who gives a shit?

I agree, which is why the movie should have been a real reboot. Now they're stuck with all kinds of garbage from the old series and movies.

I don't see how, as long as the writers don't decide to have Picard time warp back with the Enterprise-H or K or something. Due to the events in the 2009 movie, everything's changed right down to the characters anyway. Kirk grew up without a father, thus changing his character somewhat already. Not to mention that Vulcan, a big part of the UFP, is no more. I'm subscribing to the butterfly effect theory and am assuming we'll just see new stuff. Old canon won't be tethered to the new reboot unless the writers choose to do so.

There's still Borg chilling out in the Delta Quadrant. There's still whale people doing their thing who are going to be looking for some whales in a few years. Vulcans are still making babies with humans. Spock can still go zooming around the Sun and travel back in time whenever he wants to.
The Star Trek universe has some ridiculous parts and this movie was a chance to get rid of them. They didn't.

So, long time lurker, but this post provoked me to register.
I give a shit about the original universe. I'm surprised to see a Star Trek fan give it up so easily. One couldn't have fallen in love with the message, characters, or ambiance of Star Trek without the plot or the back story. To climb about and claim to not give a shit seems rather irresponsible.
What happened to the franchise during the last couple of years had not much to do with canon. It was direction-less and uninspired because of the people who were creating, not the world they had to play with.
The aftermath of the Dominion War, a continued exploration of the universe, heck, yes, even a prequel could have all been done with taste and energy. It wasn't and it wasn't because of canon issues.
This is all besides the point; I'd like to see that universe be explored further. That's what hooked me onto Star Trek. Now while I will give the new universe a chance, until it has a full universe to latch onto and explore, it is just one movie. If things go well, this universe could expand give us a whole new canon that is just as valued by its fans as the previous one.
Let's not throw the baby with the bathwater.
---
As for me personally, I want to see if the new universe has a place for a man like Picard. Not necessarily his character...I think it would be extremely difficult to replace Patrick Stewart. But I'd like to see a captain that thinks, is sophisticated...maybe not in the immediate aftermath of this movie, but certainly at some future point in time. This new ST universe would be badly served if it didn't have a place for a character like that.

I really, really hope that this does not signal the end of the original universe. It's been developed so much that it can't be just left on the wayside.
I'm glad that, at the very least, we're still getting comics set in the original universe.

It's not like they blew up the whole galaxy, just Vulcan. Cardassia is still there, the Borg are in the Delta quadrant, Klingons haven't vanished.. really the new universe isn't all that new.
