I actually felt that this was more of a Kirk/Spock/Saldana show. it definitely needed more McCoy as far as I'm concerned.

I have a fever, and the only cure is more McCoy?

"You've got fever? I can fix that."

Thanks to you Australis, I've just understood why DS9 always felt different to me than TOS and TNG (can't say for VOY). It's more of an ensemble, indeed.
As an aside note, I prefer DS9 to TNG. I can't place TOS anywhere in this, it's beyond rating, it's a childhood memory.
I've just re-watched "The Empath". Tear jerker. Of course it worked on me.

I agree, the movie was finished and I was like "Not enough McCoy!".

Re: The Official STAR TREK Grading & Discussion Thread [SPOILERS]

Not sure if this is the best place to put this, but equally didn't think it was worth it's own thread (if anyone disagrees- feel free to start one )

The Motion Captured blog - Drew McWeeny (hope that's not his real name!) asked various people what their favourite summer movie was - he meant favourite ever but some people answered favourite from this summer.

The reason I'm posting it here is David Hayter's reponse. It's an amazing description of someone watching Star Trek from not knowing anything about it.

Good review from Hayter.

Not a hater at all.

Thanks for the link to that review, Trampledamage
The guy totally loved it, that's just great to read reviews like this one from time to time.

This is the link to David Hayter's IMDb page if anyone's interested in his credentials for making the joke about maybe not everyone can write a good film beginning but he can!

I love his voice as Solid Snake - but that's a story for another thread

That was an awesome review. Honestly, when he was describing the opening scene, I actually got choked up!

Damn you, dirty Abrams! Damn you all to hell!

Re: The Official STAR TREK Grading & Discussion Thread [SPOILERS]

Better late then never I suppose.

This movie supplants every other sci-fi film I've ever seen to become my favorite of all time! Quite a statement when you consider The Empire Strikes Back just fell to no.2.

I love Star Trek. It's just that damn good. Like a phoenix, it rises from the ashes of Star Trek: Enterprise and Nemesis - except now it's cool too!

Re: The Official STAR TREK Grading & Discussion Thread [SPOILERS]

The soundtrack also kicks a lot of ass, too.
I'm listening to it right now, as it segues from "Hella Bar Talk" to "Enterprising Young Men" and the hair on my neck, arms and legs just stand up and shivers go up my spine. It just reminds me when I saw it in the theater and how incredible an opening it was. I remember yelling out "Holy Shit!" in the awestruck and quiet theatre before I could stop it.

That same feeling again.

J.
