Sudafed never messed me up like that. Actually, I don't think any drug has ever messed with me. Not even Paxil, Adderall, Ritalin, Concerta, or Welbutrin. (Yes, the psychiatrists had difficulty finding an effective medication for my ADD and Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and the latter went away on it's own when I got to college!)
Welbutrin gave me a mild seizure once, I'm told. I don't actually remember it. But the collection of medications I was on for bi-polar when I was younger was impressive, and that's the only real side effect I've ever noticed.
Well whenever I started taking Ritalin my spine felt a little weird, but that went away after I got used to it. That's about it. Welbutrin also suppressed my appetite for a couple months, and I finally came close to being at a healthy weight for my height, but eventually my appetite returned and I gained back every pound I lost and then some.

Sudafed? Phhfft. Girlfriend, puh-leeze.

Trying going to the ER, and having a double IV of morphine. Now THAT'S when you can talk about "the pretty colors."

But most OTC medicines are pretty useless, unless you plan on constructing your own meth lab. Unless you're doing double-shots of regular, nightime, nasty-ass green NyQuil, you're not going to get any real buzz off of OTC medicine. (Forget Dayquil. That shit's for pussies )
Then again, if you're downing those Sudafed with a couple of Manhattan's...then, well,.... dance away, my friend. You won't remember what you did, anyway.

Never had a problem with Sudafed. The only thing that ever messed with my head was morphine (saw a large, shiny purple dragon ) and the morning after pill (mis-read the instructions and flaked out! )

Hmm I'm going to assume Sudafed is not the same thing in the US as it is here. Here it's a fairly mild nasal decongestant, I've never noticed a side effect from it and it's available off the shelf.
I assume they still use pseudoephedrine in US sudafed if it's having that effect! They changed the active ingredient in the UK version after it was pointed out it was a simple reduction reaction away from Methamphetamine-D...

Re: Why Sudafed is sold behind counters

Nope, it's the same stuff.

They sell the older version behind the counter, but the "side effects" are the same as the new stuff.

What are the possible side effects of pseudoephedrine?

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Stop using pseudoephedrine and call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:
  • fast, pounding, or uneven heartbeat;
  • severe dizziness, anxiety, restless feeling, or nervousness;
  • easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness, fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms; or
  • increased blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision, trouble concentrating, chest pain, numbness, seizure).
Keep taking the medication and talk to your doctor if you have any of these less serious side effects:
  • mild loss of appetite;
  • warmth, tingling, or redness under your skin;
  • feeling excited or restless;
  • sleep problems (insomnia); or
  • skin rash or itching.
Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.

My point was that pseudoephedrine is no longer used in the UK version of Sudafed, it's been replaced by phenylephrine and marketed as 'non drowsy Sudafed'.

Re: Why Sudafed is sold behind counters

Right, that's how it is here with the over-the-counter version.

But if you show your ID to the pharmacist, they'll give you the older kind with pseudoephedrine, with limits to how many pills you can buy.

But my point is that the side effects are the same for both versions. I don't understand how it could make someone high without being processed into meth. It's either psychosomatic, or CD really should see the doctor about the side effects she's experienced, because it really shouldn't have that effect.

No, I have the same side effects with pretty much every pill I take.

Wow! Lookie at the colors. WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

I thought it was cuz the kids are making cheap drugs from it. But no, this stuff will get you higher than a kite. If they just kept it out on the shelves like that they'd sell out of it. There'd be like a national shortage of the awesome that is Sudafed.

And that would be terrible. Thank God for drugs!

Thank you!!!!!

I know I'm probably a tad older than you and thus might miss the connection here, but let me take a shot.

Is Sudafed supposed to help someone deal with that "music"?

...or are you just promoting drug abuse?

No, I'm promoting safe, useful use of drugs by consenting adults like me. It's those darned kids who take my Sudafed and use it to get high who make it hard for old farts like me to get it 24 hours a day to knock out a sinus infection.

Although I do promote the music.....
