Check my site out...

Hey guys,
I have just started a website for my recording studio. www.redsunstudio.net Im located in Clintonville, WI. I dont expect to get alot of everyday people coming back to my site as its mostly a classified ad type website...Mainly there to refer people to who are interested in recording at my studio. But I plan on having some tutorials up soon on playing guitar and other things. So maybe that might generate some repeat traffic. Ive already got a email from adbrite saying they are going to terminate my ads cause of low traffic or low click thru rates. I never thought they would do something like that but oh well...
Check my site out and let me know what I could do better...soon I will be putting up some tutorials...
Oh and Im planning on removing the dictionary as it doesnt fit on a music site...

Nice site. You and I have the same philosopy of recording.

I just finished a project for a friend where we recorded all of the basic tracks live in my living room, backing him with some other long time friends in a local string band. Certainly compression was used throughout the mixdown but never too much at any stage, and never any that went deep into the instrument's or vocalist's recording. It only hit the peaks. I still managed to have all the tracks hit -.2dB after mastering (some songs hit it harder than others ). It was what we wanted as it is a children's record and everything has to be up front, especially the lead vocal. It's what the kids sing along to.

Thirty-nine days from the first notes recorded to sending the master out. Not bad, especially for a band recording.

Good luck to you. BTW, I'm on the other side of Wisconsin from you, near La Crosse.

Re: Check my site out...

Well thanks for the positive feedback. But Im even open for little minor nitpicking things about the site...Like the color, ad placements, missing pages that might be considered basic. Anything. For the first couple of weeks I had a dark red for the main backround color. Just today I changed it to white. Im thinking a darkly colored site might be a turn off. Or it could atleast explain my low click thru rate on the ads. Before anyone says it...Im not trying to get rich with ads on my classified ad type website. But a little extra income is always a good thing. And I think a site without any ads looks a little bare, as much as we all hate them. Thats why I am planning on putting up some guitar tutorials soon as maybe they can get me repeat viewers. I know people arent going to keep coming back to look at my equipment list...lol.
Maybe the change to a nice white color will help with the click thru rates?

Well, as long as you are asking...

I wouldn't put your philosphy on the front page. Too wordy. Bury it on the website.

Keep your home page simple. Say something like how you make it simple to record anything from a guy with a guitar to a full orchestra. Maybe link to some sound clips of pieces you've recorded on your home page. But make it more enticing. Your home page is off-putting.

If someone liked Green Day, they most likely wouldn't let you record them, even though you say on your home page you can create that sound. But why put people off? You know, I like Green Day and I had to read past that. I like dynamics more.

I wasn't going to say this because I hate raining on your parade.

Re: Check my site out...

This is a very nice start although I can do a bit of nitpicking... by request.

I've said this of several sites I've commented on recently. The main text size in unnecessarily small. 12pt would make more sense considering the density of the content.

As "Studio" is a widely used word with multiple contexts on the internet, the home page should convey exactly what Red Sun Studios is within one second of loading the page.

There should be a picture in some form of your studio above the scroll of the home page. Personally I think that could make a nice header background (example).

You should make drastic cuts in what you say on the home page. Stick to some simple points and leave the rest up to other content pages. IMO the home page only needs to answer questions like who are you, what do you do and how much will it cost me. I'm guessing your rates are pretty reasonable so don't be afraid to highlight it (tastefully). If you can think of a succinct way to tell the visitor why they should choose your service you could add that as well.

I would lose the links page until there is more content... maybe make an "affiliates" section on a company info page in the future.

Thats really cool. I hope you do well in your studio. I really enjoy the creative and producing process. Do you have any pre-amps? I would list those if you have any. I agree with your minimalist approach. Thats a good philosophy.

Re: Check my site out...

Thanks guys for the comments and critiques. I will look into those. I have decided to transition my site from a purely classified ad type page which focuses on just my studio and what I do to a site that can contain some nice articles that pertain to recording music along with the classified ad stuff. I think there should be room for all of this. Ive started with a microphone 101 article to explain all about different types of mics and how they are used. I plan on adding more of these same types of information type pages/aticles so that I can have content that people might actually want to come and read and re-read.
I forgot about this thread and just decided to check it out today. So I will get to implementing some of these changes...
Thanks
