About the use of lens flare, filmschoolrejects had this in their review

There are some really interesting camera angles - including a lot of flares that peek through (as perhaps an homage to other sci-fi shots) and shots that don’t quite have a clear focal point (which work amazingly well).

If you're into free iTunes radio podcasts, the Hamish & Andy Show did a great, funny interview with Eric Bana about the Star Trek premiere (Best of Wednesday, 8 April).

The Hamish & Andy Show iTunes podcast also interviewed JJ Abrams about Star Trek premiere (Best of Thursday, 9 April).

For those who have seen it: How "science-fiction'y is it ? I'm fine with a Star Wars-esque action movei but the producers said they were inspired by Prime Directive- is there any real big sci-fi payoff like the end of that novel or 2001 or Federation or something generally like, 'Wow, that was good sci-fi' in term of big ideas, big concepts? Hopefully that makes sense. Like intelligent solar systems. Big ideas. Arthur Clarkean.

Star Wars was never about good vs evil. It was about the journey of Anakin Skywalker (from good to) bad to redemption.

That makes sense that the computer sounds more like it does in TNG than the robotic TOS voice. The Enterprise in the new timeline seems to be built nearly 20 years after the one in TOS. So it's a bit more up to date.

Hardly. Anakin-as-Vader was an afterthought. The movie Star Wars, the huge popularity of which being the only reason that Lucas has his empire, was about the good guys versus the bad guys.

Oh, and notes that didn't make it to the screen don't matter for beans. The movie is the movie is the movie.

I personally prefer the Prequels to the original, and on par with Empire and Jedi.

I like the mythical, Jedi V Sith aspect, and the downfall of Anakin and the Jedi, more than space fights and explosions.

I think it was why I liked DS9's religious tangent, and why I prefer the science of Star Trek and the fantasy in Star Wars.

I also like Lord of the Rings and The Legend of Zelda, so that may explain my preferences.

actually the computer was capable of sounding like the tng and did so with a personality in one episode.

i wonder if they originally intended for the computer to sound more like the familar tos but decided to let majel's voice sound more recognizable as a tribute.

I guess that's why it was subtitled "From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker" at one point.

my guess is simply that majel was near death when she recorded this and is such a mainstay of the franchise that they just let her do what she wanted with the voice and didn't want to correct her on something she has been doing for decades out of respect and she just did it the way she is used to doing it.

The damned elevator doors don't sound a thing like TOS - why would they try to simulate the decades-out-of-date "mechanical" sound of the voice? No computer or application talks that way except maybe Microsoft Reader.
