So if this movie is a huge success, can we get J.J. to reboot the Star Wars prequel trilogy too?
That would be great.

i remember being thrilled that lucas was going to tell the story of anakin skywalker and then embittered by the pathetic casting, characterization, and dreck that passed for dialogue.

unfortunately, i fear that that chapter of star wars will never be told again.

Re: Advance screening/World Premiere discussions [the NO-SPOILERS vers

I have a few nerdy questions I would like to ask those who have seen the movie...

- What is it like hearing Majel's voice for the computer, does it feel like the TNG computers?

- Does this film still have the Captain's Log Voiceovers at various points?

- Does the Goldsmith Star Trek theme feature in the score along with the Alexander Courage one?

- What are the Kelvin Computer screens like, more like the series Enterprise or more like the ones on the JJ Enterprise?

- Does the Engine Room feature a Warp Core?

- Do we see enough of the Kobyashi Maru scenario and Starfleet Academy?

- And finally, do we see any computer displays at random stations, or is it mainly just the bridge displays?

Good questions...

Kelvin computer screens?
Well the USS Kelvin is an earlier starship, so I am wondering what its computer interface looks like. They could reuse the UI from Enterprise, or it could be different.

There are a few moments where it looks a little CGI (mainly the warp effect)

Please explain how a warp effect is supposed to look realistic?

In reality I don't think the human eye should be able to see a ship traveling faster than light speed. I just finished watching Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home and the scene where they slingshot around the sun and Sulu is counting how fast they are going. I think at warp 9 they should whip around the sun faster than he is able to count what speed they are at.

So this is an area that they need to take great poetic license with.

I wasn't actually being serious. I realise that it's not realistic, and hence needs to rely on heavy (and sole) use of CGI.

If Abrams can't shoot a real warp effect and use that for the movie, then he has NO BUSINESS being in Star Trek!!!

You do realize she was also the computer voice in TOS, and shared the duty with Nichelle Nichols in TAS?

Well, if we're taking that view then how is any of it supposed to be realistic? What I'm saying is that other aspects of the visual effects look like something that could be real if it was possible to happen. They have weight, depth and in the case of the ships, weathering. Having said that, when we see the ship in warp the actual warp effect seems like splashes of bright CGI colour.

Nice, but the computer didn't speak a whole lot. It doesn't have the stilted delivery she did for the TOS computer if that's what you're asking.
- Does this film still have the Captain's Log Voiceovers at various points?
Yes
- Does the Goldsmith Star Trek theme feature in the score along with the Alexander Courage one?
No
- What are the Kelvin Computer screens like, more like the series Enterprise or more like the ones on the JJ Enterprise?
They're a new and different design also, but they do have some similarities to ENT and TNG monitors.
- Does the Engine Room feature a Warp Core?
Not that I could tell (hence my WTF a few pages back)
- Do we see enough of the Kobyashi Maru scenario and Starfleet Academy?
Plenty of both and fans should really like the Kobyashi Maru scene.
- And finally, do we see any computer displays at random stations, or is it mainly just the bridge displays?
Well there are comm panels etc around the place but nothing else is given any significant screen time that I can recall.
