You know, watching this as a kid, I always thought it looked like there was a lot going on on that panel, yet looking at this, it seems really quite simple. Weird.

In theory, as I recall, there's always supposed to be metric tonnes of stuff in progress on each of those panels. If we had the computer capacity to go with what the scripts and whatnot implied, those things would have been constantly changing layouts from moment to moment.
