How hard is it to put this on one damned screen somewhere in San Diego?
It's going to be at Hillcrest Cinemas in San Diego June 19.

Kevin Spacey would be absolutely perfect for HAL. He can do that wry, knowing tone so well.
And I'd love to hear Spacey's version of HAL slowly going insane. He'd say "I'm sorry, Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that..." with quite a bit of menace.

wonder if it will be in the UK at all.
IMDb and Wikipedia both list its UK release date as July 17th.
hopefully in my local showcase, guess I should try phoning them to ask.

Re: Moon -- actually going to be good?

i saw it at the cinema tonight and really liked it. Only about 40% capacity audience at the 8pm show.
A real sci-fi film. Sam Rockwell gave a great performance. great music and production design. good pacing and a feel for "2001 A space odyssey". Pacing also reminded me of Soderburgh's "Solaris".
very minimal cgi work that consisted of composited stars & moon shots to the model work. a little like "Aliens" (1986) model work.
enjoyed it a lot. first film i saw since "Primer" that wasn't a action movie (within a sci-fi film).
i don't want to give away anything. no spoilers.
I would have preferred a female computer voice instead of Kevin Spacey. He did remind me of HAL 9000 though.

Re: Moon -- actually going to be good?

Apparently the director is already working on a sequel. Which will actually be more like a 'coda' to this film. Ultimately the director wants to do three films in this series.

sequel mention

After reading the S.G. interview with the director I would be interested in seeing the sequel.

"Moon" design and other

A few things.
Moon reminded me of the The spacecraft interior design of Discovery that we saw in 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) and "2010" (1984) and some of the interior ship design of Mars-1 from Red Planet (2000), the Nostromo living areas from Alien (1979) and living areas on the U.S.S. Sulaco in Aliens (1986), the station from Solaris (2002)

see the illustration of the medical lab on the Nostromo.

2 photos of very similar design of a corridor but different lighting:

Here is a review of moon from Cinematical:
I can't quite say I think Moon is knock-me-down, you-gotta-see-this brilliant; at the same time, I can say I'm still thinking about it, and in an age when most big-budget science fiction films are made by people with no respect for science or fiction, it's a welcome pleasure.

Re: Moon -- actually going to be good?

Clint Mansell, who scored the absolutely gorgeous score for The Fountain, did the music for Moon, which adds yet another reason why I'm really looking forward to this film.

USA 12 June 2009 (limited)
for reference it opens in the UK and Austrailia too so you can probably expect a wider release in USA based upon performance during 7-14 days from Friday June 12.
UK 17 July 2009
Australia 3 September 2009

Ditto. And Spacey is the voice of "HAL"? He finally lives up to his name!
What about K-Pax?

OK, so it looks like it's only in NYC and LA right now. But here is the full release schedule for the US:

So apparently this is only playing in 8 theaters in all of North America at the moment (don't know exactly which cities).
Must be an LA/NY exclusive thing (which is not uncommon), because I see four of those eight theaters are here. It wasn't on my radar until recently, but since its showing around the corner, I'll think I'll catch it.
