So you've seen Watchmen...

Call it a social experiment.

No...haven't seen it...but I will soon...

They don't.

They care about cooperating in an attempt to find some protection against Dr. Manhattan - who destroyed cities in many nations, not just New York.

Osterman is the only character in the movie who really believes that he's not God, you see. Even the others who claim otherwise treat him as if he is. And each of the Watchmen has his/her own distinct concept of what "God" is or ought to be, just as they each have starkly different concepts of what matters in the name of justice.

Yeah I thought the actress and character came across pretty well too. I don't really get what all the complaining was about.

It's not like it was Jessica Simpson up there. lol

Holy SHIT.

That was the best movie I've seen in quite awhile. I loved all the characters... even the ones I hated. The visuals and dialog were wonderful. Some really great one-liners, as well.

People just respond differently to actors. I can see why Goode's performance might not have impressed some people, for example, but I liked him fine. He wasn't great, he was - sorry, goode. I thought there was a lot of idiosyncracy and a bit of reserve, there. Someone else might think him wooden and/or weak.

That may be true, but for me I just couldn't buy that Manhattan would be perceived as a continual threat, in the way an alien invasion from out of nowhere would. Since he's never demonstrated that kind of thing before, most people around the world would just consider it a freak accident and move on.

They'd certainly be pissed at him, but it's not the kind of event that would alter their perspective of the world completely, and fundamentally change how they interact with each other.

Of course to be fair, a giant squid probably wouldn't do that for very long either.

Can't wait for the Directors Cut with the Hollis Mason death scene etc, and the super duper DC with the Tales of the Black Frieghter in too

Count me in as another one who doesn't care about the squid. Comics and movies are two very different mediums, and it simply wouldn't have worked at all. Its a big enough WTF moment in the comic as it is.

btw, this is just a much a question of the comic as the film, but what did Ozzy actually do in the Watchmen? Unlike the others he doesn't really seem like a crimefighter

I think that Adrian was once a skilled crimefighter much like Batman. In other words, part thinking detective and part fighter, skilled in the martial arts. We just didn't see a lot of that aspect of the character in the movie or the book.

Re: WATCHMEN - Movie Discussion and Grading (SPOILERS)

I am quite disappointed in how bored I was during this movie. The whole thing moved way too slow.

I never read the comic, so that might have something to do with it, but the whole time I kept thinking to myself, "Come on, make a point already."

I also got really tired of the tweens in the audience giggling everytime there was a blue penis on screen.

Re: WATCHMEN - Movie Discussion and Grading (SPOILERS)

So nobody else thought made this too much of a superhero movie? I get that there was a lot of cool stuff in it, but to me they glamorized these characters so much that it missed the point of the book entirely.

Instead of deconstructing the superhero mythology, the movie basically has them running around like the freakin X-Men. They certainly looked about as cool. Somehow I don't think that's what Moore was going for in the book at all...

I thought he was channeling Chevy Chase in Vacation.

I enjoyed the film - B+

The attempts to recreate actual historical figures - even the brief profile image of Kennedy shaking Manhattan's hand - fall flat. I got the sense that the filmmakers figure that most of their audience just doesn't remember these people well enough to notice how bad the impersonations are.
I thought they weren't really trying to impersonate them so much as make them caricatures of the actual people.

Back from seeing Watchmen...
Both me and my brother liked it...
Neither of us read the original comic/graphic novel...
I think the premise of Super Heroes being human was spoofed a bit in Mystery Men...
I would give it a 8 or 9 out of 10...
