President Obama, a BSG fan?

I want to be clear right off the bat, this thread is no way political or intended to spark any kind of political debate, there.

Watching President Obama's address to the nation last night, there was a line that caught my attention. It was when he said "a day of reckoning has arrived" I know its a fairly common word or wording rather but of course the first thing I thought of was "Blood On The Scales". I'm not sure if the reference should be Gaeta or Adama related.

While I'm sure its a mere coinscidence I wonder if the president or someone on his speech writing staff is a BSG fan.

I thought the same thing when he drunkenly slurred the phrase: "Frak Earth!"

There's more truth in that statement than in all of Religulous.

I also have it on good authority that Dr. Michael Robert from "The Woman King" is former FEMA head Michael Brown.

Adama and Obama are very similar names. "b" is just a mirrored "d" and "O" and "A" are both vowels". Actually, they're practically the same name.

He hasn't died and resurrected in orbit yet. Give him a couple thousand years and he'll be nice and cycloptic.

I'm guessing we won't know for sure until we hear Obama's delivery of, "I'm getting my men."

So, wait, would that make Hillary Clinton Starbuck?

buck buck buck?

Re: President Obama, a BSG fan?

Generally, Presidents don't write their own speeches; they have professionals to do that for them. Presidenting is all about delegation, and it makes sense to delegate the speech-writing to the speech-writing staff. It's certainly probable that one of the writers was using BSG for inspiration.

At this moment I have a an image of image of half a dozen twenty-something staffers in white business shirts sitting around a table at 4 AM while the BSG that they TiVOed is playing in the background, drinking coffee and snorting cocaine to stay alert, and then one of them jumps up in response to Adama's "reckoning" line and screams "that's it, 'reckoning', we've got to use that".

In the past Obama has at the very least, co-wrote, some of his speeches. There was a pretty detailed article about it during the campaign, profilinig his speechwriter Jon Favreau (no relation to the director). You may remember him as the guy who posed for a picture with a cardboard cutout of hillary clinton - a younger guy. Anyways, going back to the point, Obama was a lot more involved with speechwriting than usual. That may have changed now that he's president I dunno, but thereotically if Obama had been a fan he could have put that in there. But it's way too vague a line to suggest a connection.

Now maybe if he'd said "all of this has happened before and all of it will happen again", wellll that'd be a little different
