Art Asylum Collectibles

I didn't know for sure where to put this thread at, so feel free to move it or something.

Does anyone know what takes Art Asylum so long to put out new stuff? I mean, I've been waiting on the Ro/Ogawa/O'Brien series for over a year now, and the Enterprise-D almost as long. I understand they're small, but over a year for three figures? That's bullshit.

I'd guess small sales vs large tooling and production costs. They are a small company, and don't make large runs of their products. The recession can't be helping them.

I don't understand why you're still waiting on that wave. I've had them for over a month. Where/how do you pick them up?

These things take time, because, as said, its a small company, and these things take time, like sculptors for the figures, right through to prototypes of the ships.
I cant wait for the excelsior and enterprise b to come out!! maybe they will do the defiant, voyager and the ent c?

Re: Art Asylum Collectibles

To be honest, I haven't actually been looking to buy them. Recession is hurting me too. I was getting them from Diamond and Toywiz.com (neither of which I've been to lately), since I can only find one store in the area that carries them. But I swear I saw an email from somewhere the other day saying that they had just finally gotten them and they were shipping now. Still, it seems like they're NEVER on schedule for releasing figures.

And yes, I can't wait for the Excelsior and E-B, especially since the release of the crappy E-B "Excelsior" repaint that Playmates put out. I had my Playmates Voyager stolen about a year ago, so I really hope they put out one of those as well. And a Defiant. And a DS9. And a Prometheus. And a... well, you can see where I'm going with this...

Stolen? I know you could probably get a few quid on ebay for it, but that's crazy!

As others have said, AA is a small company that was outbid by Playmates to do the toys for the new movie.

I guess i'm always gonna point out the virtue of having a relationship with one or more people at the local comic book store. They get a thing called "Previews" that pretty much tells what's coming in the next two months, though some things can take over a year to hit the stores. If you just want to ask someone at the store if there are any cool Star Trek things coming in soon, that could work.

Has anyone ever wondered why they never put this figure on sale. It is Ensign Mayweather, by his work station on the bridge. It was suppose to be part of a 4 part interlocking bridge set. The other three were made and put on sale, but this one was never released.

Hundreds of unpopular Mayweather single figures were still hanging on the pegs when the prototype of his bridge station pack was being promoted to the stores. There were insufficient orders to go ahead and create the moulds for the pieces needed to make his console. NewForce Comics investigated an exclusive run, but the unique pieces and electronics made it way too expensive as a short-run exclusive.

Neither did they end up creating a female uniformed-torso for Hoshi, nor a doctor's outfit for Phlox. Tucker in uniform did end up getting made - as a very limited exclusive - using pre-existing parts.

I just noticed the date on your post (April 2009) after answering it, but that wave was distributed in January 2009.
