My family celebrates a lot of birthdays in February (dad, two sisters, three nephews). In fact, you're all invited to the party today.
I bet you won't be saying that when 329 geeks show up at the party.
The more the merrier.

I'm suddenly picturing a recreation of the scene in Weird Science, with Drone36929 opening the front door and seeing a huge crowd of every TrekBBS member standing there, stretching all the way out to the street.

Drone36929: "Hi."
TrekBBS members in unison: "HIIII!! PARTY! PARTY! PARTY!..."

Don't feel too bad. You're not alone. Ironically, twenty-two years ago, there was a defining moment in my life regarding a woman. But in my case, it was because I pushed past the fear and acted on my feelings. She hated me so much though, that I was threatened with arrest. For the next two decades, I let the extreme events, and my feelings toward that, color my approach to women. I came to believe that I didn't have the right to be in a romantic relationship. Suffice it to say that has changed, and I'm now with a lady I knew even back then.

I guess I should have approached her, instead of the other one.

Seize the day, my friend. Seize the day. Because you never know what may happen. Like that poor family in Buffalo this week just minding their business in their own home and tragedy struck with 50 people losing their lives, including one of their own loved ones as well as the loss of their home. Seize the day.

And good for you too for finally being able to find that someone. May your lives be long and happy together.

Come on over! Asian-American family celebrations are known for an abundance of food (barbecue, pancit, chow mein, sweet and sour pork, take you pick.)

Eh, Valentines Day is a Hallmark holiday-- I would argue it's far more about consumerism than "love," but it can be nice, too. It's a great day for girls to show off their cards and flowers and stuff! So, I'm not against the day necessarily-- it could also be a good opportunity to let a girl know your interested with a nice gift!

I sent my fiancee a homemade Valentines card and a nice letter (we're long distance right now).

You kidding? Valentine's Day is *all* about consumerism. It just uses love as an excuse.

No offense, but that is not an answer I'm prepared to accept. Lord knows I'd *like* to be able to derive some joy out of all of this, but I can't see the logic. Valentine's Day concerns itself, at least superficially, with romantic love. That is something I have none of, at this point. So therefore there is nothing to relate to.

Mind you, Trekker's perception of imbalance is not warranted.

If people allow themselves to be dominated by their partners to the extent that feelings of inequality arise out of silly things like Valentines Day that's their own lookout. It says nothing about the day itself and speaks only to the poor quality of their relationships.

Perhaps you should alter the parameters in your search for a mate.

I used to be bitter about it, like Scrooge was about Christmas, but now it's no big deal anymore. Seriously, as you get older, you just don't care.

Re: Valentine's Day: Yay or Nay, Hooray?

I tried to make this past Valentine's Day something good, and it came out to be just an ordinary day, which is good. At least I didn't get bitter and sulk. Oh, I feel lonely, but I can just plan to be busy for next Valentine's Day.
