That's great stuff. I wonder how good the movies will look in Blu Ray though. I also wonder what versions they will be.

I'd actually like to get the TMP theatrical version. I've never seen it, only the Long Version on VHS and of course the Director's Edition.

I can understand why TMP's director's cut isn't on Blu-Ray, because all of its new effects were only done in standard def and they will need to re-render them for HD. Kind of pisses me off that they didn't do them in HD from the get-go, but there we are.

But TUC and TWOK? The new scenes in those films had absolutely no special effects whatsoever. So what's preventing those special editions from making it to Blu-Ray?

I never really liked what they added to TUC on the DVD release, especially in the Spock/Valeris mind-meld scene. Just flashing the faces of the people she listed seemed too jiltered.

They'll rerelease them as special editions when Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Karl Urban have time to sit down together and record a commentary track for them.

Or when Lucas goes back to Star Trek 5 and re shoots "Spock's Birth" scene with Quinto.

Is anyone actually going to buy just the "trilogy" of Star Trek II-IV? Or buy it just to be a cover art/box set completist?

It's pretty funny how many different ways Paramount will resell and repackage Star Trek.

Anyone remember the original movie six-pack and ten-pack box sets on DVD? The original one had the special edition of TMP and the standard DVDs of the rest of them, and every time they upgraded one of the other movies to special editions, they'd release a whole new box set. So somewhere out there are nine different versions of the ten-pack and five versions of the six-pack.

Considering ST II will also be the theatrical version: No, I won't buy the trilogy either. I will wait till all the special editions come out on Blu-Ray. Hope it won't be too long a wait (I assume they are planning such a release, eventually).

If the TNG films come out on BR as a separate set, I might buy that one, since even the 2-disc DVDs were all the theatrical versions. So I wouldn't be losing anything that way.
