Ghost Rider 2 - Columbia/Sony now out to screenwriters officially

Courtesy of Bloody Disgusting
It's pretty shocking that it has taken this long for a sequel to get a move on, but finally Columbia Pictures is gearing up for GHOST RIDER 2, the sequel to the smash-hit comic book adaptation from 2007 that saw Nicolas Cage as a stunt motorcyclist Johnny Blaze who gives up his soul to become a hellblazing vigilante, to fight against power hungry Blackheart, the son of the devil himself. What we learned this evening is that Columbia Pictures is officially out to writers to pen the sequel and that Nicolas Cage is in fact attached and signed on to return.
Let the moaning and groaning begin by those that will do so.
Personally I didn't loath the film. It was to me a modest movie with a few high points. I'd give it a grade of C+

That said I hope that should this get made we will get a more gritty movie. I know Cage added the jelly bean munching bit as a way to try and show Blaze's ambivilance about things however, now that Johnny has some answers I expect Blaze as a character to portrayed more bad ass. This character and the universe he inhabits is full of avenues to explore so I hope a good screen writer lays it out and the rest of the talent to make the film falls into place.

I was a decent movie, I would watch a sequel but not at the cinema.

I thought it was a good, fun movie with great effects. I gave it a B+ and look forward to a sequel. It would be great if it were a crossover with other Marvel characters.

It didn't look like a sequel was going to happen. Anyway, if it gets off the ground hopefully it'll be an improvement over the first one, which had some some good FX shots but was otherwise pretty crappy.

I thought I was the only person in the world to like this movie until I read some of the replies to this post! Good to see I'm not alone.

I'd pretty much definitely go and see a sequel to GR. Cage is always good value for money and I liked his jelly bean munching goofy take on Mr Blaze. And I think Mark Steven Johnson is a fairly under-rated director - I liked his Daredevil too.

I walked out of the Original but, after finally seeing it on a pay channel wished I had stayed in the seat. I wouldn't run to the sequel but I would probably, eventually give it a theatrical chance to impress me. Now that the Origin story is past, a sequel might be fun right out of the gate.

I don't mind Mark Steven Johnson as a director, but maybe he should stop writing his own superhero movies.

Why are they making another one?

Didn't like the first GR.

It made over a $100 million dollars, as I recall.

It did have a 110 million production budget, though. That said, it made the money back domestically, then the same amount again worldwide. I wouldn't call it a smash hit--films have been labeled dissapointments that made more--but I'd say it met reasonable profit expectations; enough to warrant a sequel, evidently.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

Re: Ghost Rider 2 - Columbia/Sony now out to screenwriters officially

Its return on its budget fell into that gray area where a sequel is a possibility, but isn't a slam dunk decision for the studio. I guess that's why there was no indication of a sequel for quite some time, then a few rumblings, and now they're going out to screenwriters.
