I'm not so sure about a full-blown contest, but maybe some sort of film festival of sorts, with a bunch of non-monetary awards.

Put it on Sci-Fi and have Rod Roddenberry host it (the kid needs something to do besides the website, y'know).

On Sci-Fi would be

, or IFC, Sundance, TNT or TBS maybe?, the CW, among others.

Rewards aren't & don't have to be restricted to becoming a doughboy or becoming a part of continuities.

I think that while the intention might be admirable, my opinion about this kind of thing is still the same every time someone suggests it: bad idea.

I dunno...there should be some way to do something that'd give everyone a good venue to show off their stuff to a wider audience while not cheesing off Paramount.

Most awards in the film industry matter only for their promotional value. Few are awarded by peers, and many can be essentially bought (see "Golden Globes").

Francis Marion used her Oscars as doorstops.

I'll de-lurk long enough to agree with that. Working with producers of B&B's caliber might be the only motivation for me to participate in a contest like this. It'd be sweet, actually, to hang out with the writers of "All Good Things" and "Equinox."

'course, I run an no-budget audio show, not one of the (infinitely more complicated) film projects, so I'm not sure I'd even be eligible for Mr. Honga's contest.
