The Stig: unhelmetted

Seems that the identy of Top Gear's Stig Mk II has now be revealed to all and sundry though this time he's been revealled by some-one else so not likely to be shot off an aircraft carrier.

Re: The Stig: unhelmetted

I thought it was common knowledge that Ben Collins is one of the Stigs.

His name was included in the BBC's formal investigation of Richard Hammond's accident as a driver, and he's been on the show as himself at least once. You know you watch too much Top Gear when you can tell his distinct driving style without the helmet on (he has very consistent arm movements compared to other drivers).

Whatever the case, since he didn't spill the beans I'm sure his status as the Stig isn't in any danger.

Wait, people actually don't know?
I always thought it was a gimmick they used... like... umm... Wilson from Home Improvement.

Nope - generally most people don't know The Stig's identity - go to wiki and look under the Top Gear entry about The Stig but yes that's part of the gimmick ala Wilson's face.

The previous stig spilled the beans in his biography which resulted in his departure from the show (it involved the stig, a car, nitrous oxide and an air craft carrier

yes, there's a website that answers questions (not ask.com, another one) and a magazine feature i was reading had this as a question and answer, and it cited the accident report Hammond had as their reason for naming collins

Hm, I was hoping it really is Damon Hill or so, but of course that was extremely unlikely.

I didn't know The Stig's identitiy. I just kept my eye out around ponds to see if I could spot anyone sucking the water off the ducks. I knew that would give me a clue.

I've never even thought about it, I just liked the "gimmick" of the "mystery" behind the Stig.

I'm skeptical.

After all, some say that he has a titanium chin and can only converse in ZX-81 machine code.

So it can't be this guy - right?

I really didn't care who The Stig was, I just love the running gag with him. Do hope the poor chap isn't fired over this.

I've known a couple of people who have worked on the show and didn't have a clue. One of them accidently saw his face when the Stig was getting a drink alone in a room - he turned his head and closed his visor.

It's more like a Mexican wrestler than Wilson. Though I hope this means we can get Fat Stig back.
