He put the "fear" into "Fearsome Foursome", a force to be reckoned with, wherever he was on the field. Although "sacks" were not officially recorded until 1982, he has to be among the career leaders if not THE leader.

OMG, one of my all time favorite players. Back in the day, my fiends and I were all diehard Rams fans and we idolized Deacon Jones. I recall a game in the L.A. Coliseum once where he beat the ball back to the punter on a 3rd down play. He wasn't called for being offside either. The guy was dominant force in the league, even deadlier than Lawrence Taylor was (in Taylor's era). Against many teams he was unblockable.

Great, great player. Rest easy big guy.
