Top TV Shows of 2008--Chicago Tribune list

As compiled by Ms. Maureen Ryan. Some of the choices here might be more of the forum's liking....or not. Gossip Girl didn't make this list, so perhaps it's more valid? Enjoy. Discuss. Debate. Disagree.

Chicago Tribune top 10 list

Oh look at that little show that could which gets absolutely no love from the CW because it's idiot in chief insists on spending every advertising dollar on Gossip Girl...which gave Gossip Girl the budget for 2 additional episodes this season while cutting the little show that could's budget. Yes, my favorite Supernatural. Cool beans. Ryan wouldn't even watch it during its first two seasons because she couldn't miss her precious Grey's Anatomy. Finally she gives it a try and lo and behold.

Maureen Ryan's list, in descending order--

1.)Mad Men. I agree. It's outstanding.

2.)The Shield. There you go.

3.)Battlestar Galactica

4.)Lost

5.)In Treatment

6.)Chuck. There you go, Chuck lovers. It gets love in Chicago.

7.)tie: Supernatural/Torchwood/Dr. Who. She thinks Supernatural is the best and most consistent of the three. Ahem.

8.)Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog. An internet show.

9.)Thirty Rock

10.)The presidential election coverage. Yep, she listed it.

Honorable mentions--
Burn Notice, Friday Night Lights, Law and Order, The Closer, The Wire

The What the Heck Happened Awards?
House
and......yes, she didn't like it this season
Dexter.

I'm going to have to check out this Chuck--if I ever get a spare dime to spend on DVDs again. I hate it when you can barely make rent, car payment, and groceries.

I've only seen S1 of Chuck but it was a lot more entertaining than I thought it was going to be (I saw the pilot only then got the DVD a year later). It's very funny with interesting characters and satirical stories. It's basically one half The Office and one half Alias, yet ironically I find myself preferring the office stories as they're hilarious.

I know that feeling.

I'm glad to see Dr. Who and Torchwood on the list. Both are excellent shows!

Always good to see Lost and BSG on these lists, even if they aren't ranked numbers one and two in that order. Like the two best shows on TV that they are.
