Ok I've become very much an optimist when it comes to Trek XI, but isn't this putting too many eggs into one basket? I know that it shows Viacom has some support for the new series, but the first film in this relaunch hasn't even come out yet.

Re: Star Trek Sequel In The Works

It seems to me that in this day and age it has become something like standard operating procedure to begin work on a sequel when a film is expected to be a hit. I think this is very positive, as it shows that there is a lot of faith that the movie will do well

As for too many eggs in one basket... well, Trek XI is done being made. If they want to get a head start on the next one, that's great!

Is it possible that there is a little bit of perfect storm elements working for trek right now?

I mean, you have the right name to produce/direct, you have the right name for a franchise to revive, you have a cast who is inexpensive and talented, you have studio Execs who (perhaps) are closet trekkies who are willing and now able to spend the money and hire the manpower to put on "good trek"...

Great. I was hoping Trek XI would spawn a few sequels. Good to know they've already got at least one more planned.

I too, think it shows a lot of optimism on the part of TPTB to essentially give the go-ahead to start work on the next one, script-wise at least.

I just wonder how they'll title it, as Abrams was fairly explicit about not placing a number after this one.

They could bring back an Original Series antagonist to Captain Kirk as the main villain for this one, just as it did in the other first sequel.

"The Wrath of Finnegan" anyone?

Clearly, J.J. Abrams and his people have demonstrated to the folks running Paramount that they know exactly what they're doing and how to do it.
