Star Trek News Bullets

  • Market Rasen Mail reports that Star Trek XI's Simon Pegg commented on working with Leonard Nimoy after receiving an honorary fellowship from the University of Gloucestershire. The award was for Pegg's "outstanding contribution to the arts." "To work alongside someone like Leonard Nimoy was completely nuts," said Pegg. Pegg hails from Gloucestershire.

  • Publisher Simon & Schuster has eliminated thirty-five positions, according to Publishers Weekly. The job eliminations were "an unavoidable acknowledgment of the current bookselling marketplace and what may very well be a prolonged period of economic instability," said CEO Carolyn Reidy. Among the layoffs was that of Senior Editor Marco Palmieri, a familiar name to Star Trek literature fans and with whom many of the current Star Trek authors have worked.

  • According to What's On TV, seventy-one-year old George Takei has made it to the finals of the I'm a Celebrity...Get Me out of Here!" reality show, which takes place in an Australian jungle. Takei and actor Joe Swash and tennis star Martina Navratilova are the three remaining contestants out of the original dozen. The winner will be determined on Friday, December 5th.

  • TrekMovie.com reports that a new Star Trek licensee will be offering Star Trek toys next spring. Funko will offer a line of bobble-head dolls, otherwise known as "Wacky Wobblers." The first line of bobble-head dolls will include Kirk, Spock, a Gorn and an Andorian. Another Star Trek line of toys to be offered by Funko will be "urban vinyl" figures. So-called "urban vinyl" figures were those originally designed by DJs and graffiti artists during the 1990s. Three figures will be offered: Kirk, Spock and an Orion Slave Girl.

  • William Shatner has posted a new video on his Shatnervision YouTube site, where he discusses his interview with Valerie Bertinelli on the first episode of his new show Raw Nerve and shows a bit of the interview.

  • From Sci Fi Pulse comes the word that Leonard Nimoy wants online fans to know that the new Star Trek movie won't disappoint. After reading negative comments from fans on a Star Trek, Nimoy had this to say: "About two months ago my wife, Susan, and I saw a near finished version of the new 'Star Trek' movie. Some special effects and new score were not yet in place. Susan can be a very honest and tough critic. When it was clear that the story was wrapping up she turned to me and whispered, 'I don't want this movie to end!' There are some directors who can manage a grand scale and some who can deliver great personal character elements. Not many can do both. JJ Abrams is one of the few. He has given us a wonderful film."
