"Pushing Daisies" cancelled

Sorry to bet the bearer of bad news but I just found this on Nikkin Finke's Deadline Hollywood Daily:

Ax Falls On 3 Shows In ABC Primetime
Today, Dirty Sexy Money, Eli Stone, and Pushing Daisies were all cancelled after posting season lows among adults 18-49 this week. But ABC did order five more episodes of its new series (based on the British drama) Life On Mars. All the axed shows were marginal at best, and two were interrupted by the writers strike. Warner Bros' Pushing Daisies was an expensive experiment. It began airing with big buzz but also had early budget and production problems from trying to sandwich 70 to 170 visual effects into every episode -- so many that people considered it an unsustainable show. ABC Entertainment prez Steve McPherson called Bryan Fuller with the news: "We gave it the best shot we could." This was also the show that ABC decided not to preempt for Barack Obama's half-hour campaign commercial which every other major network aired.

I really liked the show and the characters a lot. As much as I supported the writer's strike, I can't help but feel that it was the long hiatus that was the main factor in the audience going away.

I don't see any info on how many shows might be left to air or if it'll be effective immediately.

I agree that the real question is home many more episodes of these shows are going to air considering it may just be more cost effective to shelf them rather than put up with more low ratings? Althoguh they many dump them all in one huge after midnight bvlock just to say that have been aired and reruns and international circulation can begin.

I'm super pissed.

Brian claims that if worst comes to worst that he will start making pushing daises comics to finish the stories of these character to a natural conclusion.

You'd hope that they did a wrap up episode assuming that they wouldn't get a back nine, but if they're talking about comics, I guess not.

Also, when did comics become the fall back medium for cancelled TV shows?

Pushing Daisies was a lot of fun, sorry to see it go.

But, hopefully Bryan can now do that new Trek show he's wanting to do.

But although I recognize the high quality of Pushing Daisies, does the meager audience bode well for a re-imagined Trek series by the man?

I think I'm more upset by the Eli Stone news. I became quite fond of that series.

Argh! I knew this would happen.

They could have tried another time slot or seen how well it did paired with Lost. I wonder what the chances are of it being picked up by another network or channel....

I'll nominate CSI:Miami to die - I like the original and NY.

Or any "reality" show.......

But Pushing Daisies is much better than any one show. How about all the CSIs and all reality shows?

Even then it's not a fair trade.

I'm with you on that one, Eli Stone was pretty entertaining. Not a great show, but cute and good for an off slot, at least.

Pushing Daisies started decently, but I'll admit lost my attention a bit when it came back. Seemed to stall pretty quickly, when the main sources of drama were: Ned and Chuck love each other, but can never do anything about it. Violet loves Chuck, but Chuck has no interest. And then there were dangling bits about Emmerson's daughter or the Aunts not finding out about Chuck, but it seemed that all the majore problems were set up right away, with no real way to grow out of them or change...

One question about these two shows: are there any remaining episodes that will be burned off, or have we already watched our last shows?

Unfortunately the trade must be with something of the same general class.....
