He looks great, granted under makeup etc, but he looks great.

And the grey hair is kind of reminiscent of Mark Lenards Sarek, as if its gone full circle. To quote Superman; The son becomes the father, and the father becomes the son.

With fan reaction running 80-90% positive, it's less so.

I'd say it either stemmed from:

1) The execs saying "How can we get a legend and major marketing pull in there, and not use him? Put him in."

or

2) Leonard Nimoy's reps contacted Paramount and asked why the film's top actor wasn't featured in it.

I'm inclined to say it's #2, but both are of course guesses.

A few stray thoughts:

My first impression is that Nimoy looks much younger than I've seen him look in years.

Spock's a vegetarian; would he wear fur?

The line reading was odd. I guess when you've said a line forty-two zillion times, it's hard to come up with a "fresh" version.

As mentioned by others: Why was he not in the first version of the trailer?

Goosebumps when I saw our famed Mr. Spock return...

And, 'logic dictates' that when one is in a cold, frigid area...one should find a way to stay warm.

That brings up further questions: Did Spock eat meat to survive? Unless he was able to find some plant-like areas below the surface...

This movie looks to be real cool!

It may not be "real" fur. In a time where you can replicate stuff, it may be one of those. No animal had to die if it came from a replicator.

Of course, he is 'Spock' so that is a possibility.

I'm gonna be a complete misery guts, and say I prefer the non-Nimoy version. I don't think they've done a great job moving the Nero clip to the middle of the trailer, it just doesn't feel as smoothly edited. Bana's "the wait is over" just feels out of place where they've put it.

If they really wanted to swap out Nero with Nimoy, I'd rather they did exactly that, and just lost the Nero clip.

So, nice to see Nimoy, but I don't think it's an improvement.
