IMAX 'Star Trek XI'

Star Trek fans will get to enjoy Star Trek XI on the large IMAX screen next spring.

As reported by, when Star Trek XI debuts on May 8th of next year, it will be seen at both regular and IMAX theaters.

Star Trek XI wasn't shot with IMAX cameras, but will be converted to 70mm for projection on the IMAX screen. It is the first Star Trek film to appear in an IMAX version.

Star Trek XI opens a busy summer for IMAX movies. After the success of The Dark Knight last summer, more films are being shown at IMAX theaters. This summer, after Star Trek XI, films such as Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will be shown at IMAX theaters. The Transformers film will be shot with IMAX cameras. The Harry Potter film will have twenty minutes of the film shown in IMAX 3-D. It is not known at the present time if Star Trek XI will be anything other than an IMAX conversion.

Anyone remember the IMAX Trek film which was planned a few years back?
Kim: I'm detecting some weird technobabble.
Janeway: A possibly dangerous anomaly that we know nothing about?
Kim: Yeah. I suppose we should steer clear.
Janeway: Ha! Good one, Ensign. Take us in, Mr. Paris.

Yeah, I remember the rumour that Colm Meany was going to be in it as O'Brien.

Well, I know how i'm gonna see this movie next year! IMAX all the way! It doesn't matter if there are any other features. You get a MUCH bigger screen, and way better sound than in a conventional theater. Definately a great way to welcome Star trek back to the BIG screen. This is also the first feature to do so in IMAX, which is cool as well.

Oh, I'm there. I'm sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo there.

I officially no longer care about the script, although I reserve the right to dissect anything that actually remains in my brain after one viewing of the film.

I can't remember where I read it, but I remember that Berman was going to gather several TNG guys (Frakes, Burton, and a couple of others) along with a couple of VOY people (Picardo and Wong?), and Frakes was going to direct it. It was going to be about 45 or 50 min. long, IIRC. Might've been fun.....
